7 Series - E65 / E66 (2002 - 2008)
Discussion of BMW's 4th generation E65/E66 7 Series flagship. The E65 generated much controversy, due to its radical styling and iDrive user difficulties. Nonetheless, the E65 broke records to become the best-selling 7-series iteration ever, especially after its 2005 facelift.

My ZUSB number is greater. Therefore I thinkt it is upgrade not downgrade
I am not specialist, but I can assume that there can be different ZUSB numbers for different chassis. Therefore if You select VIN number which is yours from e65, the WinKFP will know what exact ZUSB is needed for e65. If Your TCU prevously was updated for e60 reighn, then it could be quite logical that e60 firmware cannot match coding and network of e65.
Just for interest, please select update function, and write down numbers which will be provided by WinKFP.

Don't try to find ZUSB manually, try automatic update function

I found the ZUSB 9205893 only in the SP-DATEN Tele15 history files for E60 then I should be able to update but only for a E60/E61. I found the 9171347 in the SP-DATEN for E60 too then this module was originally fit in a E61 and updated but is now too new for a E65 :/

What I can do is only select TELE15 in upgrade with E65 SP-DATEN but I have always the same message Wrong ECU hardware number : 9205893 (BSU not possible) and same result If I choose manually the ZUSB.

I tested with NFS too and same error message "9205893 (BSU not possible) "

I still blocked with this TCU :-(

Is it even after You enter Your long VIN number? And then hit Prog.ZB Update?

Once I read that adding into HIS file necessaey ZUSB number allows use it manually.
Change HIS file of e60 by adding mine zusb number. Make backup of course...
I think WinKFP will find the accordant 0pa file.

See this.

OLD BMW TCU 1.5 Telematic Bluetooth Module flash software

This info was from HIS file from e65. AndI do not see the 9205893...
Maybe mine 9171347 also is different which I extracted from Programm v28? From Yours...
I will be back at home in 9 days. I can share that 0pa then.

I am still wondering does really Prog.ZB Update function with Your VIN not allow to update Your TCU...

FINALY I HAVE FOUND THE SOLUTION !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I downgraded successfully the TCU to 9206778 with fake history files

"Wrong ECU hardware number : 9205893 (BSU not possible) " was displayed because this number was not recognized as an existing TCU in the TELE15 E65 SP-DATEN but exists in the E60 SG-DATEN then :

I opened the SP-DATEN\E60\data\TELE15\TELE15.HIS file which contains the line :
9205893,9213318,00,UB
and added this line in the NFS\data\TELE15\TELE15.HIS file in my PC which contains E65 SG-DATEN in WinKFP

Similar action for the second history file :

I opened the SP-DATEN\E60\data\TELE15\TELE15.HWH file which contains :
9205893A F
and added this words in the NFS\data\TELE15\TELE15.HWH file in the first line of numbers in my PC but I had to modify the F letter because upgrade only proposed to write the same ZUSB 9205893 and because I thought it was probably a letter to explain if ZUSB has to be updated or not, I tried to change the letter with E (as some others numbers in the file) and this permited to update ZUSB to 9206778

With this downgrade I was able to open the .C13 configuration file with NCS and modify it with NCSDummy and as soon I modified the first parameter from E61 to E65, the pairing was immediately working and now I can connect my phone to my E65

Then the conclusion is that it is possible to downgrade ZUSB with minor actions in notepad

But since I installed the 1.5 TCU , my voice recognition SVS is not working anymore (but it has the last update firmware version then should work) but works if I install the previous TCU for internal handset phone $638 and I don't find why :/

Phone board not working

Has anybody solved phone board problem after retrofit?
Some of retrofitters have already claimed that phoneboard is not working after TCU retrofit.
SO is mine. I have even changed ASK with FL phone board.
Even connected directly. The weird thing that both of mine phoneboards do not even light up. Checked currents; all are running through the wires... at connectors to phoneboard... weird

Phone board working

Bought older TCU with part number matching e65.
Installed, changed VIN with Tool32, encoded, and phone board is working.
After swap INPA does not show error on bluetooth antenna as well.
Well, newer TCU (or programm in it) possibly was not compliant with the phoneboard I guess... Weird that when I tried to update the latter TCU with WinKFP, it proposed to update ZUSB with the newer number which is in my previous newer TCU, to which phone board was not responding. Did not flash, just changed the VIN, and everything works...

The phone board light is controller by the TCU, not by the light switch.

Check You have coded phone board in ASK and MMI
Maybe is not aktiv also if Your TCU 1.5 Most ece
If is from E60 or others will be not coded so not aktiv
If connected must work, just coding.

It was the passenger site antenna, this with gps and 1 of 2 gsm.
I have changed it and no error now.
GPS works anyway but the gsm part has been broken I guess.

I can confirm this method! Finally I'm using bluetooth as well.

Because I can't code the TCU to default values (empty MAN), can anybody post the values for TCU_POWER_SOURCE and POWER_MONITOR_TYPE? (in this thread is a dump from mareks TCU, but I'm not 100% sure, that he uses the correct values)

Because my 2004 SVS was not working anymore since the MMI, TCU and ASK upgrade, I just ordered for 27$ a 2007 English voice module which should be compatible with the other upgraded parts. I hope it will work.

Finally it does not work better with this new module !

Probleme comes from my TCU 1.5 module.

With Voice Recognition ACTIV : when I press the voice button on the streering wheel, radio is muted (as to hear a sound) but no sound, and if I press again, radio play again.

With Voice Recognition NOT ACTIV : when I press the voice button on the streering wheel, nothing happends.

My production date is 0605 because if I choose a more recent date, NCS-Expert display an error message about $216 option ( HYDRO STEERING-SERVOTRONIC) not possible.

Does anyone which has a SVR working can copy his TCU 1.5 configuration file for me to check If I found a solution ?

I had a SVS HW09 UK flashed in French which was perfectly working before TCU and MMI and ASK upgrade.

I received a 01/2008 SVS HW0C module and I flashed it in French too but same problem no sound.

I saw in a BMW doc that SVS output is made by the ASK module which makes the GONG sound when you press the voice button. I have no GONG sound and no voice then may be the problem comes from my 2006 ASK flashed with the last version because when I select Top_HIFI in NCS-Expert , it add Top_HIFI_ab2005 option which is not installed in my 12/2003 745.

But I retrofited the original ASK unit to test the voice and no voice again then may be problem from the MMI ???

I believe the problem is with the new TCU. I did the retrofit a few years ago, and have lost SVS since. Nothings else was changed, ASK and MMI are facelift models, only TCU is new. I bought a newer SVS module but still the same.

Strangely, with the car on, if you do the MOST bus reset, SVS would work perfectly until the car is off. When it's not working, I still have the gong, but nothing else.

I suppose you correctly activated Voice Recognition in the NCS-Expert configuration of the TCU as I made too ?

Try looking for a 'save MOST configuration' menu or similar.
In INPA under ASK selection, however I never done it INPA. In DIS in service functions. I use DIS after adding a MOST component, but don't remeber exact path by heart. Probably similarly also in ISTA.
However, I personally never had such problem without registering most configuration, Try it.

TCU 9334433 from a E91

Hello all,

I recently bought a Bluetooth TCU to replace the one I initially coded to my E65 because it did not allowed me to answer from the steering wheels button (and that was totally tiring me).

Actually the new TCU part reference is 9224422 and comes from a E91.
I checked the wiring which was the same as the one I initially did in the past, so I connected the TCU without changing anything.
The only thing which did not worked in the past was the phone keypad on the side of the ASK module ... which seems to act the same with the new TCU too.

I managed to successfully access it from the MMI (which is a latest version too coded by myself).
I then tried to acces the TCU using Tool32, but I couldn't write the VIN inside replacing the one existing inside (A603811).
Tool32 refuses to write my VIN inside the new TCU no matter what using the job "c_fg_schreiben".
I tried all these various possibilities :
- 7 digits UPPER case and LOWER case
- full length VIN
- HEX values (using a ASCII to HEX converter online)

Nothing changes, it keeps giving me the same error message which is : "ERROR_NUMBER_ARGUMENT".

I'm totally lost in this mess, I read somewhere that there might be possibilities like :
- changing the BMW model it was coded too for "E65" (as this module comes from a E91)
- Flashing the firmware inside the module to something else ?
- SPDATA files too old / too recent ?

Well, any ideas/solutions/guidelines will be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Screenshot of Tool32 while running the job "c_fg_schreiben" :
