I'm a little crazy here, but I'd rather have a V8 and install a supercharger. Can't do that with a turbo can you?

WHo cares about whether it's NA or Turbo? Is the M3 badge big enough to see? I think they should place them like they do the 335is badge.

It will be an I6 and it will be fantastic. BMW laying an egg with the next M3 is not going to happen.

Question Why are so many forum members so hyped up?

Why are so many forum members so hyped up about going down to a 6-cylinder turbo? The car will be lighter, more powerful, space will be saved and higher fuel efficiency will be achieved. Everything is a win. I passed on buying the M3 this year to wait for the newer engine to come out. Higher torque, lighter car, higher horsepower and lower gas millage. I donít understand why some are so outraged at the possibility that the engine will not be a naturally aspirated V8. Anybody care to explain with a smart reason? For the life of me i can't figure it out. BMW has to evolve, as do its engines.

You mean _better_ mileage, right? But I agree. High performance naturally aspirated V8 engines sound nice, but they simply aren't the direction the auto industry is heading. Instead of lamenting what we've lost, let's look forward to what we're getting. The next M3 will be fantastic.

For those that will miss the big, heavy, inefficient V8 that probably never should have been shoehorned into a 3-series in the first place: there's always the option to go buy a Mustang or Camaro.

Yes on the better mileage; I look forward to the 2012 or 2013 M3! There will always be a place in our hearts for the naturally aspirated V8 engine and its monstrously powerful deep sound... Iím certain the new M3 will have modified exhaust systems to produce an equally sexy and audible decibel level.

No chance of the 2012 M3 being the F30.

I just don't like where BMW is going in terms of compromising its values.
Those bavarian engineers are really liking the Turbo tech arent they?

Do you seriously believe BMW aren't capable of making a V6 engine as good as Audi or Mercedes?

Failure isn't something that M-Division do very often and certainly not with their most important and successful model. Just because you are stuck in the pass doesn't mean they have to be as well.
