The 328i is such a better looking car to me than the GLI, in this case with only these two cars as an option, I would go bimmer !

As somebody with a 2008 335i Coupe at the dealership with a 2013 328i base loaner, I feel I should put in my two cents. (BTW, I took the car out on Mulholland Highway the other day to test the steering, ride, and handling.)

1 - The steering isn't as bad as people say. It does feel weird when you push it from Comfort (it felt like it stiffened mid corner), but in sport it felt fine. I can still feel the weirdness of the EPS in really aggressive driving but 1 notch down (kinda aggressive) the difference isn't as noticeable.
2 - I like the CA with the silly kick to open the trunk. I never pushed any buttons on the key.
3 - The ride was a lot better in the 328i, but my car as the sport suspension so take that as you want.
4 - The handling was a lot worse in the 328i. A few corners felt out of control while in my car I felt planted and in control at the same speeds. However, my car has the sports suspension so take it as you want.
5 - I strangely didn't miss having navigation even though the loaner just had the base IDrive.
6 - I don't like the noise of the I4 with turbo compared with my cars I6 with twin turbo.
7 - I thought the car had plenty of power. My car feels like a bit overkill on power (which I like), but the 328i felt like it had more than enough power.

All in all, I like my 2008 335i Coupe over the 2013 328i. However, the steering is not bad, the handling can be improved (with the sports suspension), and the power of the engine is plenty.

The GLI is definitely a nice car, but didn't give me that same feeling when I drove it. The price difference ended up being only $65 per month ($315 on a 42 month lease for the VW, $380 on a 39 month lease for the BMW, putting 2k down for each) and it was worth getting the car I enjoyed driving more for that little bit of extra $$. It was a close call on paper, but not so much after driving each.
Thanks guys for your input.

Final configuration:
328i (no line) sedan, manual transmission, Black Saffire, Black Leather, Premium, heated seats, enhanced bluetooth.

Arrives around Xmas. Can't wait!!
Good choice, isn't the new Jetta being panned by everyone for cost cutting? Unless the GLI is different.

Dumb question but can you connect an iPhone and have the Phone's nav app display on the screen?

The Jetta is ripped for cheaping out on the interior (hard plastic everywhere, etc), but the GLI doesn't do that and is more like the prior generation jetta interior and is actually pretty decent.

I am pretty sure the iphone app won't work thru the idrive like that--but if so that would be great! anyone know?

I have a 2013 GLI as a third car for the family and love it! Nothing like the cheap, slow Jetta I rented recently while traveling.
My F30 335i is better, but for the money the GLI is a fun, practical car to drive.
