Performance Exhaust ($1700) vs MPPSK ($2900)

For $1700, there is an option to add the "Performance Exhaust" on a 2017 440i.

How is that different from the $2900 MPPSK?

The MPPSK (M performance POWER and sound kit) adds a factory tune. The "performance exhaust" does not. Was not aware you could get the exhaust without the tune from the factory... thought you would have to do that at dealer side.

I do have the $1700 option and it is LOUD with some popping.

I was wondering what is the MPPSK and if it's worth an upgrade........but then it may be way TOO LOUD for my neighbors.

Press release for the MPPSK from a couple of years ago...

The BMW M Performance Power and Sound Kit has officially been launched is now available for the 340i and 440i powered by the B58 engine. The final output numbers are 355hp (+35hp over stock) and 369 lb-ft for auto (+39 lb-ft over stock) / 355 lb-ft for manual (+25 lb-ft over stock). This results in a 0.2 second 0-60 mph improvement over stock acceleration figures.

PS: I have this on my 340xi, and it's great. Definitely notice a little more pull and the exhaust note is more more noticeable when in 'Sports' mode. It is not as aggressive in terms of power or sound as some third party options.

$1700 for an MPE which is a loud muffler. That is expensive.

Doesn't it also provide extra power hence the name "Performance Exhaust"? And it's coordinated with the different power drive modes so there are valves.

No. If you want the extra power, you need to spring for the MPPK. The MPE is just more sound and fury. And it is my understanding that you have to buy the MPPK as a package; you can't start with the exhaust and then add the chip later. Others may correct me if I am wrong.

The M-Performance exhaust referenced above is just the muffler. The MPPSK includes the tune AND a catback exhaust. It is straights piped from the cats, w/ no resonator. I'm also not sure that it is the exact same muffler included in each.

I have the MPPSK on a new 340i. I really like it and would likely order it again.

If the exhaust a different part between the N55 and B58? When I bought the performance exhaust, I shopped it online for $900 (exhaust only) and then a pair of the chrome tips for $250 total. $1700 seems high for the performance exhaust.

Price aside, I'd agree with others that the PE has a great sound that hits the perfect balance of aggressiveness once its broken in after a tank of gas or so. Much of the 3rd party stuff is too obnoxious for my suburban tastes not to mention the 1 year old's room is partly over the garage.

Coding aside, probably the best modification I've done to my car.

I have a '14 335 which I believe had separate options, not sure though because I purchased it with the MPE and MPPK already installed.

However, my question is, did the older model only include an axle back for the MPE? Because that is what mine has.

Ahh, so the new models receive a CAT back whereas the older version was axle back.
