My new baby

Windows just got tinted yesterday. In the process of dipping the rims black. Will follow up with those pictures when done. So far it's been a very easy job. $35 DIY instead of $300 from local shop.Click image for larger version

lol, just making sure

I'm liking the black wheels. I'm curious how long the dip lasts for you before it starts peeling / going FUBAR.

Me too. I researched the process in great detail over the last few days before attempting. From what I saw, if done correctly, it'll outlast your tires. Most said they get messed up on tire changes. Being that my tires are 75% or better, should be good to go for a while.

I put on 7 coats. 4-6 is the minimum, 6 preferred. I bought 5 cans so just went until I just about ran out and saved some for the grill.

Again, if done correctly, they will withstand pressure washes and touchless car wash, just not the wire wheel.

One center cap would not come off easily so I just went right over it. Took a good bit of digging with my fingernail to make a hole to peel it off so I'm comfortable with the thickness and durability.

Have you considered dipping the rims black? It was incredibly easy. Interesting that you have a mono color bumper and not the two tone...

What product did you use to "dip" ? I'm curious and wouldn't mind reading up more.

Regular plasti-dip from Wally world. 5 cans did 6 coats on all rims and grill with some to spare. YouTube it and look for the official guy who does a yellow car.

Just watched it. Hrmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I wonder how it would hold up in snow and ice.

Reviews I've read/watched said that, if applied correctly, it will last years or until your next tire change. The machine that separates the rubber from the rim will peel it. It's just rubber...snow and other dirt just brushes off of it. Need some heavy abrasion to peel it. I've pressure washed them a bunch of times already with no problems.
