I purchased my X1 (2014) directly from BMW with 27k miles (one previous owner, retired couple).

I financed the purchase through my local credit union bank. They offered a platinum extended warranty 75k miles / 5 years with a $250 deductible. Itís an exclusive package, and covers absolutely everything. I paid $5,500 and they allow me to pay monthly $89 bucks.

For me, $89 bucks a month for ďpeace-of-mindĒ is worth it (IMO). Itís known BMWs are not cheap to repair, especially if itís a major component. To date, I havenít had to use it, but I sleep better at night.

I also have a separate account where I dump a set figure every month for maintenance and pull as needed. I replaced the following items myself.

Oil and oil filter
Air filter
Cabin Air Filter

These are relatively easy to do and I intend to do them myself. For items I canít do, Iíll pull funds from the ďmaintenance account.Ē

^^^^ Yes, yes, yes and more yes ! For those of us who aren't part of the 1% club, this is the BEST way to handle maintenance costs on a luxury automobile. So many people just assume nothing will break, don't save a penny, then get ridiculously angry when a $1,500.00 repair happens from one minute to the next. Plan and budget
