7 Series - E65 / E66 (2002 - 2008)
Discussion of BMW's 4th generation E65/E66 7 Series flagship. The E65 generated much controversy, due to its radical styling and iDrive user difficulties. Nonetheless, the E65 broke records to become the best-selling 7-series iteration ever, especially after its 2005 facelift.

Ok i know they originally stickered at 121k, but it looks like I picked one up for.....$2,300. Now I need to sort everything out to get it to a point where it can run reliably. Thoughts?

What is wrong with it? Tell us more....
If you are meticulous like me you will easily spend that much again fixing everything (parts cost) but that's OK. I paid $5K for my 2006 760i (short wheelbase).

well so far the seller has not told me much, he says it runs a bit rough but i can drive it home, but i would rather drive the 1.3 hours with it on a rented uhaul trailer for $50 rather than risk a cooling part failure until i check everything. it sat for about 2 years so the paint looks a little rough on the top surfaces (black) florida sun.

So, you've seen it in person and test drove it? Did you get a diagnostic tool and scan it? Big help. Outside and interior checkup is always great too. You can tell if it was repainted or in a car accident.

Unless you have a lot of money to burn through I would stay away (depending on the issues), but at that price something must be very wrong.

Hello,

Change the all the fluids, de-carbon the engine. Also find a shop or mechanic who is knowgledgable about BMWs. Then drive it and don't be Nice.
