Air condition whining noise

I notice today after I turn on the air conditioning, there is a whining noise. As soon as I turn off the air condition, the noise is gone. Charging the fan speed won’t affect the noise. It is not a constant noise; the interval is around 1 sec. The noise is not severe. music in my overpower it. But once I turn the music off, the whining is there. Anybody experiences this? Really hate to put my car in the shop. Don't know what the tech guys gonna do with my cars.

There is a wheel next to the vents. In my case when it is in the red position I sometimes hear a squealing type of noise. In the blur position seems to go awAy. Mine comes from the passenger side middle vent

Since it is not severe. don't know it will worth it to put it in the shop. I don't know if they are capable to fix this kind of problem.

I just picked up my car from the dealer and this is the SAME EXACT noise I am now experiencing - a humming / whining noise coming from the HVAC fan / blower when on, where there is an on / off one second interval cycle for the noise as described; along with another which was fixed at one point in the past, but is back - a loose / squeak whistle like sound coming from the ash tray / cigarette lighter area. Please confirm whether or not anyone has experienced either of these two problems before. Thank you.

Went to the dealer 3 or 4 month ago. They did checked on it though, and they admited there was a noise there. They never fixed mine after trying twice. Noise is still there, not everytime fan is on, but 80-90% of the time, the noise exists. After 2 attemps, they said all their 7s have it, it is commom BS. I guess it is too complicated for them to fix it, not worth the time. I just let it go, I don't want them to tear apart my car and fix this problem only neither. After all it is not that big deal if you don't pay attention to it. Not very big noise, when music is on, you won't be able hear it.

Yes I am currently experiencing this on my 535 and it is overbearing it comes and goes and just simply annoying! I expected more from BMW this is my first one and a little dissapointed as I have taken to two dealers and they've had my car for 13 days out without resolution. BMW tech cannot place where the noise is coming from

No argument here that Lexus makes very reliable vehicles...I've owned a bunch of them; but they've done nothing truly exciting in automotive design or technology since the `02 SC430. Yes, the LF-A is a $400K supercar but, looks-wise, I would choose a V10 Audi R8 Spyder over an LF-A in a split second and not look back. Yes, wierd sounds are annoying. I've experienced them in houses and every type of vehicle, including some made by Lexus. [If you want to see some real ranting, check the Lexus forums for comments about creaking noises in the 3rd generation GS cars.] Sometimes the service techs can eliminate them, sometimes not.

I can't stand any kind of noise coming from the car that's not supposed to be there, so I usually force the dealer to fix anything of the sort. When they call to say it's done, I tell them to make sure because if I come out to pick it up and it's still there - they're getting a negative review filed and I'm not giving them the loaner back until it's complete. I don't care if they have to replace the entire module that's making the noise. 100k for a car - it better be quiet.

I can totaly understand the annoyance factor and wanting to fix it. I just worry about the possibility of service techs causing more problems by taking things apart. Fortunately, my last experience with something that annoying was in an Audi I owned about 20 years ago and they did cause more problems than they fixed with that one.

Has this noise been resolved for anyone? If so, what's the culprit and what's the fix? Thanks.

Hi all, I'm having a similar issue. I have a 2002 318i saloon, when the a/c is on, I get an intermittent whining noise. It lasts about 10secs but keeps coming back. The frequency of the noise increases with the revs but can't be heard outside. This noise is only there when the a/c is on plus the smell coming from the a/c is pretty bad! Please advise

I'm getting the same problem. I own a 2010 750i and the blower motor seems to be making a whining noise when the fan is on max and higher settings. When slowed down, the noise goes away but I can still hear a residual sound from time to time. I'm wondering if any of you gentlemen know how to take the blower motor aka HVAC motor out and where exactly it's located. This seems to be a lubrication problem. Just can't figure out exactly where the blower motor exits the vehicle properly without destroying something. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I had this "whining--droning" sound happen 2x, culprit was a small leaf that fell via the air intake vents near the wiper on the right side. even a small leaf (the size of a corn kernel) can cause this droning sound once its bouncing inside the blower motor blade.

solution: put a mesh screen on top of the air intake opening near the right side wiper so small things like twigs, leaves wont fall through

I gotcha. What do you recommend I do? How do I get to the blower motor? I've tried going from under the dash by the passenger side but no luck. Photos might help too. Thanks in advance.

you must access the blower motor from the engine bay, but involves removing the top computer box cover on the right side near the wiper area. do not remove electrical sockets to prevent any computer errors, it will be self explanatory once you have begun, i lost the instruction link i had before.

The right side meaning the passenger side or the driver side? Can you send some pics? It would help a lot. BMW wants like 1500 to put a new one in. I'm thinking its a stick or leaf just as you mentioned before. Not gonna give the "stealers" 1500 dollars to clean my blower motor and put it back in.

right side means........passenger side (USA). sorry cant send pics now as my car is undergoing repairs until early July. near the passenger side wiper you can see a small air duct opening, that is the air intake for the airconditioning, since the grilles are far apart, small objects can get sucked by the blower motor underneath. it is not easy to access the blower motor, you will have to pick up the foreign object with a stick or something since space is tight after you have removed the components sitting above the blower motor.
