7 Series - E65 / E66 (2002 - 2008)
Discussion of BMW's 4th generation E65/E66 7 Series flagship. The E65 generated much controversy, due to its radical styling and iDrive user difficulties. Nonetheless, the E65 broke records to become the best-selling 7-series iteration ever, especially after its 2005 facelift.

Glad it worked out. My cable cable from Amazon and the plastic tab was set to fit into the wrong spot in the back of the CD unit, I tore off the plastic ridge with pliers and plugged it into the other correct socket abs it works fine. You also need to have the CD unit from mid-06 or later, mine was early 06, a very easy swap to fix, albeit a costly part.

Jeeze, auto spell correct did a number on my last reply, lol. Fyi, if you select the aux input from the mmi and DON'T see the aux-volume option on the right side of the display then your CD unit is the older pre mid 06 style and needs to be upgraded.

Thanks for the detailed video and instructions, @PAPER!

I followed everything that was mentioned on this page. Aux cable also installed into ASK unit as described (Pins 2,7&8),, and coded 'AUX' option is also showing up on my MMI. But, audio is not playing via AUX option (nothing is changing on screen, when I select 'AUX' option).

Please help me, if you ever faced this problem.

Thanks in advance.

When you select aux, do you have the option to adjust the aux volume in the mmi display? If not, your dash cd unit is too old - swap it for an 07/08 unit and it will work plug and play without any additional programming.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I don't see anything changing when I click the 'AUX' option. I think I might need to change my ASK Unit.

Can you/someone let me know, where can I buy a 07/08 ASK unit? I can't able to find one on Ebay.

Any information is much appreciated.

Thanks!

My ask unit was newer than yours in my '06 and I had exactly the situation you described, bought an 07 (or 08?) unit from ebay and it worked perfectly. As soon as it was installed there was an mmi option for aux volume in the aux panel.

I have another question regarding Android Monitor installation. Please help me, if anyone installed AVIN 8.8'' Android Monitor on 2006 E65. I got everything working except the sound from android monitor, but my Aux is working fine if I'm in old MMI screen. ptical Fibre Cables are also swapped from original main harness to the android power harness.

I know this is a different thread, but appreciate if I can be guided to a right thread.

Thanks!
YOU will probably get more help if you ask your question in the Avin 8.8 topic

@PAPER & @NYC760, I have just found that even though my AUX is working fine after new 08 ASK swap, FM and AM are not working with this. They are working fine if I go back to my original ASK unit, but AUX is not working with original one.

Did I miss anything? Or should I still need to code something after swapping to new ASK unit?

Question, I have a 2006 750Li. I coded the MMI and the ASK unit for aux but didnít get the volume control on the MMI when selecting aux. so I upgraded the ASK unit to a new model and the aux works but it only plays the highs, no bass. Could the problem be with the MMI being that I didnít change it to a newer year as well? Or is it something else?

Likely cause is a bad connection somewhere in the audio plugs, initially try swapping the audio cable that you're using from the aux, try playing from a different source device, don't use Bluetooth anything as a test device. Also, check that your bass and subwoofer settings are actually on max when in aux mode input.

I tried everything you've mentioned. No change. When the music plays it has plenty of highs and mids, but no bass. Bass is there but it's like it's struggling to get out.

Can you or anyone tell me what modules need to be coded and what changes are to be made in the coding?

Update: after some experimentation I found that there is an EQ on the iPhone 7 that needs to be changed to bass booster within the music app that gave me more bass. Still not 100% in my book but it's better than what it was.

Would still like to know what modules need to be coded and what coding should be done to them.

It seems that some AUX cable to connect at the rear of the ASK has resistor/capacitor and some other none of that. then some cable can filter some sound.

Where would the resistor be located?

Has anyone cut the resistor out of the aux cable? What happens? Does it still work?

Update: cut the resistor out and everything works as it should. Bass is now there. Want to thank PIFOBMW for mentioning the resistor in the cable.
