CPO X1 vs CPO F30 320i or keep my Accord?

Hi guys,

I have been checking some CPO bmws and these two came up

1. CPO 2014 X1 xdrive 28i. With Sport line, servotronic, ultimate package
30000 miles on the clock and basic warranty is till 04/18 and CPO is till 04/20.
$24,991

2. CPO 2014 320i rwd. With Sport package, moonroof, power seats, heated front seats.
32000 miles on the clock and basic warranty AND CPO is till 04/20.
Previous owner purchased extended warranty.
$22,991

I am driving 14 Accord V6 EX-L and dealer gave me trade in value of $16,500.

I have no big problem with accord but wanted to drive BMW before getting married.
(I am 30 and still a single_ concerned about what if my future wife does not let me to buy a bmw)
One problem is its Stupid head restraint angle. I am 6'3 and it almost breaks my neck and back. Also, interior rattles badly here and there.

I would like to ask you guys what you will choose between these three options. I am thinking of financing it with $3,000 down payment so that I can stay lower than $200/month.

I looked at both also. The 320 is quieter and plusher, while the x1 is more powerful and has much better driving feel. Tech in x1 is dated compared to 320, but I'd rather have the backup camera and nav in the older x1 (CCC) system than not have it in the newer 320 one (NBT). The hatch is nice for the future, but the 320 has more back seat room and a bigger trunk too. 320 without the premium package is missing some of the lux details of a BMW. Both have the sport seats, so that's a big plus. That's a tough call between the two of them. I think it comes down to if you can live with the HP of the 320. I think a sport 320 would be a fun car, but the X1 does pull harder and feel better in the curves, though I've not driven a pre-lci sport (only a post LCI non sport).

Well, most of us here in this forum are X1 drivers, so we're a little biased. For me, I just love the 2013-2015 X1. It fits like a glove, has enough ground clearance to handle the dirt roads to the Cascade trailheads, and yet still handles like a sports car. For me, it's the perfect combination.

Two minor complaints: 1) The back seat is a little tight, but then I rarely have anyone back there. 2) The run-flat tires don't inspire quite the same confidence on rough surfaces as a conventional tire.

On balance, I'm glad I upgraded from my 2006 BMW X3 3.0i (manual, m-sport, loaded)

The power and driving feel of the X1, along with the benefit of AWD (if that means anything to you, it did to me) make it the clear winner between the two. I think you will find that most of us here feel the E84 X1 is a special car.

Love our X1. And if you want to drive a BMW you'll appreciate the extra power of the 28i engine in the X1 vs the 20i on the 320. Plus the more old school design such as the hydraulic steering on the X1 feels much nicer.

That said, I did drive a 2016 328i loaner and it did feel more plush. Still I would choose the X1 without hesitation.

Also, you can get far more for your***8203; Accord if you sell it yourself.

I did test drive both of those and felt exactly the same.

Interestingly, X1 was way more sportier than 320i.

Thank you for all your thoughts.

That's how I felt, and it's why I own a x1 instead of leasing 2016 320i. Honestly, finding a x1 28i with ultimate and sport package is somewhat rare. If its a good color, and you like the interior trim (personally I'm not a fan of the base silver interior trim- I've got it because I liked everything else and went on price), I'd go for it.

If it was me, I would drive both paying all attention to the way each drives, and get the one that drives the best.

Forget about cameras, nav, or other add-on goodies. You want a BMW to drive it. It will feel far different than the Accord, and if it has fewer goodies, so what?

Get what drives the best, forget about the rest of it.

I agree with you except for the camera. It's just too useful to not to buy a car with one anymore. I'd think you'll eventually use the lack of it as an excuse to sell the car.

.
Actually the f30 drives very much like an accord or Camry in terms of steering feel. The overboosted electronic steering is vague and wooley. A Mazda6 gt is a better buy than a 320i.
Else get the X1 for the classic BMW experience, useable hatch and more oomph.
Or keep your accord and save for your wedding and honeymoon. Pick up a used z3.

Wow. Finally found this quote and reply function.

Thanks for your thoughts and I am test driving those again today to see if they are worth changing from accord. I think X1 steering is firmest (hydraulic from what I am understanding) and gives the best feedback. Then, accord. It might sound weird but I driven 9th gen accord i4 and v6 and V6 gives way more feedback and is nicely weighted. Unfortunately, f30 320i or 328i gives least steering feelings. But, its weight distribution is so perfect than my 38 to 62 front super heavy v6 accord allowing me to dig into corners.

Thank you for your idea of Mazda6 and I might test drive it too but if any of them are not super convincing myself, I will keep my accord.
