AC belt off/explain this!

So I heard a noise and saw some smoke from under my 4.8i. Stopped the engine and inspected. Found nothing. Days later I heard what sounds like the AC tensioner pulley making noise. No big deal, time to replace. Today I found the AC belt just lying in the engine bay. Still intact. Sitting behind the radiator fan. How in the world did the ac belt slip off like that when it is behind the serpentine belt on the harmonic balancer? Did it really slide through without disrupting the serpentine belt? that would indeed be bizarre....
Sure it's not an old one from a previous owner that was hiding somewhere, and yours is just gone? However unlikely that is given all your work?

I am 100% sure. I truly think it cycle through the harmonic balancer. Remember all my old work. This is the belt I installed 14,000 miles ago. The belt has some rubbing marks which would explain the burning and smoke for a few seconds but I am astonished that this belt was just sitting there. I thought I would have to cut it to take it out but it just came out. I see some metal shavings from what I think Is the pulley bearing. Iím guessing it happened quickly upon failure. I guess itís time for the stretch belt modification while itís cold outside.
