Bluetooth and Palm Treo

Just bought a 2008 528 xi. I linked my Treo 700p to the car and it seems to work well. The favorites are the only contacts that show up. The real question is...can using this phone cause the "TCU to crash" as my BMW service manager stated? Any experience??

Mein Auto: 2008 535i
I am pretty new myself but I have experience with the Treo and BMW. When I first got my 530i in 2005, the Treo 650 I had then was a pain to connect. Even if it connected, the sound quality was dismal. As I recall, all kind of people had the same problem back then and BMW blamed Palm, and Palm blamed BMW. Somehow, someone did an software upgrade and it was working beautifully. I then had a Treo 680 about one year ago and that connected well too with the '05 530i. Now I just got a '08 535i and still have the Treo 680, it connected flawlessly the first time and has been working well. Calls are clear, connection is without a hitch. I cannot say anything about a 528i and Treo 700p but I don't see why it would be any different from my 535i and Treo 680.
On the other hand, the contact list has always been like that. The favorites are the only one that will show up and I think I remember if you had more than 20 (don't quote me on this) then there is a problem. By the way, even back in '05 with the Treo 650 and 530i, it never crash the iDrive. Hope that helps.

Thanks

That definitely helps put my mind at ease. My Treo seems to work well integrating into the car's bluetooth. Was a little concerned that the system would crash. I'll continue to use it. Thanks again.

Been using my Treo 680

...paired via BT for just about a year. Works perfectly.

Any contact you export to your SIM phonebook will also be available in your BT directory.

To add to Caarnut's response, specifically on the Treo it's called "SIM book". Just highlight a contact's phone number you want added to the BMW directory, the go to Record>Export to SIM.

I've had my 535xi for almost two weeks now, and the Treo 700p is working well. Like you, the favorites are the only contacts that show up. I'm a little disappointed about that, but it's not a big deal; it just means that I have to dial some numbers through the Treo rather than through the iDrive. I am thinking about getting a fully compatible phone with a cradle, but I'm going to hold off for now.

Eddie, did you see my post that any record in the SIM book also appears in the directory?

Thanks, Earl. Verizon is my wireless provider, so my phone doesn't have a SIM card.

Ah, understood - good point, and thanks for clarifying.

I had a Treo 700WX and now the Treo 800W both form Sprint and it has NEVER caused it to crash. I also use JetWare and it enables me to download as many contacts as I want not just my favorites. So i would encourage you to look at that software. It has made my bluetooth connection rock solid!!! Good luck!

Thanks! I'm going to look into the JetWare software right now!

I looked into JetWare. JetWare is for phones that use the Windows operating system. My phone (a Treo 700p) uses the Palm system, so I won't be able to use JetWare.

ohhhh sorry Eddie I did not read your post carefully. My apologies. Yes JetWare is only a WM solution. Good luck.
