Ways to test a camshaft position sensor

Is there a way to test a camshaft position sensor while the sensor is still mounted on the car ?? I have a 1999 328i convertible. thank you

You'd need an oscilloscope or a graphing digital multi-meter (which is really a hand held oscilloscope) to connect into the circuit that goes to the ECU to see if there were pulses coming out of the CPS.
Do you have a cam position sensor fault code?

yes the fault codes were p 0340 and p 1519
