Question Quick Newbie Question on 335 M-Sport Badging

Been on hunt for 335 M-Sport and have noticed that about half of the time, all of the model badging is gone: e.g. "335i" and "X-drive".

That is, the cars have been de-badged.

Anyone know why this is so prevalent with the M-Sports?

THANKS.

De-badging BMWs is not uncommon. In Europe it is a factory option. Many owners in the U.S. think it makes their car look "cleaner".

I think it is more common on the x-drive models and newer models that have the giantly long names, just looks terrible, my 3 says 335i on the back - that is fine, my X5 said Xdrive 3.5i on the front fenders and it looked terrible, so I removed it, now just says X5 on the back and is nice and clean.

Just a guess, but the M-Sport package is probably not something ordered by casual BMW customers. I would care to offer that those who do order the package are very particular about their BMW and thus focus on cosmetics such as badges a little more. I have a 335i X-Drive with M-Sport package, but left the badges on - personal preference.

Thanks for all of the perspectives.

Anyone know if it would be easy/difficult to have the badges added back on?

you can buy the badge from a dealer and stick it back on. My car came debadged in the rear and I am considering adding the badge.

There's no way that I would ever debadge our 335is Coupe because the additional 335is badges on the side of the front fenders are just one more thing that sets it apart from a 335i. Would it be cleaner? Yes, but it wouldn't be as unique. And it's not like the badges are the only thing that makes a 335is visually unique.

However, I did Plasti-dip the side rear 335is badges just to give it a stealthier look and to go with the whole 335is black trim theme such as the black chrome kidney grilles, gloss black mirror caps, black chrome exhausts, and black rear valence.

Not to split hairs, but unless I mis-understand, more than one 335is has been produced, "nicht wahr"?

Based on that your 335is is not "unique" it is "exclusive" or "Limited edition".

Don't get me wrong. The 335is edition is definitely a Limited Edition and as such very sought after, it is however, not unique.

What do you mean by "Plasti-dip"?

Nice SD 335is, was that a factory option or did you do that yourself?

Have not... But I have heard that the longer you wait, the greater chance you'll have fading of the paint, and previously hidden paint (under the badge) will stand out as a ghost image where the letters had been... YMMV

At first it was just those hideous X-Drive logos...

But there I was floss in hand, I couldn't stop myself.

Next thing I knew, my car was nekkid!

I think it is a cleaner, simpler look and makes waxing easier.

just fyi - the emblems are also available in high gloss black chrome. You buy them that way, but they're not expensive.

335i badges are available, 335is badges are not. Bimmian.com keeps saying that they're going to be available at some point. I talked to them at Bimmerfest and they said that the die cost is about $10,000. Also met two 335is Coupe owners who have been asking Bimmian for them.

Earlier days I did not understand either. Suppose 328's might want to be mistaken for 335's but when it's a 335 debadged I really believe the person likes the clean version better. Those silver numbers do look kinda tacky anyways and really does look better without but will never be confused with an M3. Hmmmm maybe I'll get me some Goo Gone and floss..LOL

335is....Just wanted to apologize for my rudeness for that really isn't the real me and kinda of embarrassing to be thought of in such a light. Your postings are really quality and you are an asset to this community.Weather you accept this or not is your choice but just wanted to clear some air...Thanks for reading.

Thanks, I appreciate that! We're good. Were you the person who stopped by the BMW CCA booth at Bimmerfest and signed up? (You don't look like your avatar! ) I thought that person said their name was Chop and Chop 362 was the only member I could find which kind of surprised me. It was nice meeting you in person and thanks for joining BMW CCA! I hope you enjoyed Bimmerfest as much as we did!

It is best to leave the badging ON or you may get into an arugument with a towtruck driver who want to drag your car not kwowing it is an AWD vehicle and then damaging the transfer case.
