Mein Auto: 99 328i convertible
camshaft position sensor

my 99 328i convertible has a check engine light on - reason the scan tool says - camshaft position sensor - any ideas on how to fix , or clear the code to get the check engine light to go off , the car runs great otherwise

With a bad cam position sensor you can get symptoms as mild as a slightly rough idle to a no run condition. With that fault stored, vanos operation may be inhibited which will leave you down on power above 3K RPM. Consider yourself lucky itís still running fairly well. Replace the sensor and thank the old one for giving a gentle warning it was quitting on you.

I replaced the old sensor , and it runs better now , although the check engine light will stay off for about 10 minutes and then when you start the car again , the check engine light comes back on , I have done this 3 times clear the code and the check engine light comes back on , any ideas on ways to get the light to stay off ?
