Bimmergeeks.net
everything you need is there.
Its 45 bucks the other cable the coders used to recommend
is one stop electronics which was 100.
The bimmergeeks cable is more stable and faster.
Yes you can get 20 dollar cables on ebay but are you willing
to gamble on them being any good for 20 to 25 bucks difference.
Bottom line is a K/D can cable.

This is the cable I'm ordering. I'll be using just laptop IPNA with this cable. I don't need anything else, right?

That cable and the download from Bimmergeeks.net will
get you two forms of diagnostics and all the coding and programming
ability you will ever need.( Inpa and Ista D)

You can use a Windows PC with any operating system from xp to win 10.

diagnostic manual ista/inpa
https://bimmerprofs.com/diagnostics-inpa-part-1/

https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...7x8H3pN8h1fMuF
https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...-P-actually-do

If you use Windows 10 the command prompt is now the Power shell.
Right click on start and always use the admin version.

Also these are helpful

https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/at...9&d=1539905743

I suggest you vist the coding forums online for DIY's
one of which is
https://www.e90post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=368

I suggest you set up Ista d to. Its a better program and all in English.
It's like having a shop manual with guided troubleshooting and a searchable database.

There is no program called INPA on the Bimmergeeks website.
1. Standard Tools
2. Rheingold
3. SP-Datens

Here's a thought....how about just naming things simply? I work in IT and have for a very long time, but Im not reading 20 pages of documentation just to get a program up and running that should be, unzip, install....the learning curve should come from usage and me actually using the tool for good on my car, not the installation and the guessing game. /RANT

Try installing it .
For an IT guy you seem pretty helpless
Try executing some unix commands or programming at
machine code level.

Install standard tools follow the instructions in that folder.
One page of instructions sets up the Inpa suite and there pretty condensed.
Then Inpa , ncsexpert and tool32 show up and some other stuff.
Most of us had no instructions other than word of mouth from other
users.

It's work to install it because it's pirated. You want the $10,000 software to install easily? Buy it.

I did. Thank anyway. I see why its a mess, pirated. I thought this was freeware!

Ill stick to Protool, adapter arrives Monday.

Regardless if it is pirated, a clean, clear install guide would have been nice from one of the masses, its just good etiquette instead of "here you figure it out, we had to" (because I'm obviously not getting the correct files, and if I'm going to pay bimmergeeks for bandwidth to DL something stolen, ill just buy and support their app)

I appreciate the feedback and help.

Inpa is a BMW Engineering tool.(developed by Germans)
It might be meant for German Engineers that can
do Eigen VecLors and Laplace transforms in there heads
In German. But this basis program is what runs Ista.
Most of the masses don't want to mess with programming
or diagnostics at any level.

I understand. Thanks again for taking time to converse with me. Ill get the version from Bimmergeeks at some point, I have to get a larger SSD for my laptop anyway. Until then, for pulling codes, registering my new battery and some basic coding, I think the Protool app should suffice. Read alot of good about it.

I'm not that great with computers. I installed from the instructions provided but still waiting for my cable. I'll hook it up and see if I did it right.

What instructions? I googled and YouTubed for a week and I came across nothing concrete. No one runs WinXP any longer and anything I did find was for XP...

Where did you get IMPA from? Bimmergeeks.net?

Yes sir, Bimmergeeks standard tools download. Install was on Windows 10. (something about compatibility mode for XP. I don't know what that is). When I opened the zip file, there was a file named "Install instructions" which too was a part of the download. I followed instructions. (delete such and such file from c, replace those files copy copying and posting same files into c from the download files in zip folder, etc). After all was said and done, I got shortcuts on my desktop for INPA, NCS-Expert, tool32, etc. Have not tried it as of now because I have not yet received my cable from Bimmergeeks. But I did double click on INPA and it opened up on my laptop but nothing was connected obviously. Will check it to see if it works when I receive the cable.

Below is a cut and paste of what was written in that file:
Kind regards

1. Run St212.exe using all default settings except the 4 checkbox options in the "select additional task" window regarding "backup and restore" and "create desktop/quick launch icons" .
(If using Windows 10, run in st212.exe in "Compatibility Mode" for Windows 7)

2. After install completes, select "No" to restarting PC.

3. Navigate to your C:\ drive and delete the folders labeled "EC-APPS, EDIABAS & NCSEXPER"

4. Replace those folders with the "EC-APPS, EDIABAS & NCSEXPER" from this download by copying them to the C:\ drive.

5. Copy the 3 files inside the OCX folder and paste them in the C:\Windows\Syswow64 folder. If you do not have this folder you are a 32-bit system meaning you need to paste them in C:\Windows\system32 instead.

6. Open Command Prompt as administrator & enter the following commands. Please note if your 32bit system, start on the 2nd line: If you have issues getting the commands to succeed, make sure your running command prompt as administrator.

cd c:\windows\syswow64
(Press Enter)
regsvr32 mscomctl.ocx
(Press Enter & wait for "Registration Succeeded" message)
regsvr32 msflxgrd.ocx
(Press Enter & wait for "Registration Succeeded" message)
regsvr32 comdlg32.ocx
(Press Enter & wait for "Registration Succeeded" message)

7. Place the "BMW Tools" folder(BMW icon) on your desktop. Shortcuts to all the software are inside.

8. Make sure your cable is set to COM-1 with a Latency Timer as 1 in device manager.

9. Reboot Computer.

10. Installation is complete.

Figured so, I didnt DL from there due to the fact they were charging me for DL bandwidth....so I was certain I had incomplete or bad files.

I am getting my Protool WIFI adapter in the mail today and have already purchased the app for Diagnostics...

Thanks for responding.

My download stopped too. It said, exceeded bandwidth or something like that. You can pay or wait few hours and after a few hours, it will start to download again. I opted to wait. And it eventually downloaded it all.

If you get it installed, please let me know so I can be comforted in knowing that I have installed mine correctly as I'm definitely not much of a computer guy.
