E60 / E61 (2004 - 2010)
BMW 5-Series E60 Sedan was first seen in the Unites States in the fall of 2003 with a 2004 Model Year designation. The E61 wagon followed shortly there after. The E60/E61 5 series is now available as a 528i, 528xi, 535i, 535xi, 550i and a 535xi sports wagon! -- View the E60 Wiki

Dynamic Drive and new shock absorbers

Hi guys,

I have an 06 530i with Dynamic Drive and the shocks are worn, so I'm getting them replaced soon. I've been wondering if I need certain shocks for it considering it has Dynamic Drive and a parts website did say there was a difference but I can't find anything in my online searches beyond that little blurb.

Do I need special shocks or can it use regular shocks? OEM replacements are over $500 each here which seems too ludicrous to justify, so a cheaper alternative is what I need.

Dynamic drive is an optional sway bar system and the shocks should be the same. Check part numbers on Realoem.com

OE shock/strut was likely made by Sachs. Google the BMW PN and look for the Sachs PN. Should be much less expensive than the BMW part. My E39 has the Sachs PN on the strut.
