2016 X5 50i rough idle and slow speed stutter

Hi, my 2016 X5 50i is misbehaving.

On occasion when I drive slowly, e.g. when leaving the office lot, the car would stutter around 1000RPM, as if the RPM's suddenly down up down up normal.
When the car went for service around 9K miles ago, I reported the problem, they found nothing.

I just took the car for service again, 19K miles, yes oil, and I reported the same problem.
The service adviser told me it is bad fuel, he asked what fuel I normally use, I said Costco, he said oh that is the problem, Costco fuel is "old", I should use Chevron. (I live in 90266 near Los Angeles).
Got the car back, and it felt almost worse, uneven idle, waiting at light on way home just out of parking, engine sounds like it is dying, revs down up down up normal. This time I was not even driving, just sitting idle at the light.

Whenever this happens the engine is cold, but cold as in LA cold, 70F+ outside.

Unlike the first time I reported the issue, the SA did not report my concern on the paperwork. (my bad for not checking)
To make things worse, the last tank of fuel did come from Chevron, and I just drove near 300 miles open road over the weekend, so she did stretch her legs a bit.

I have seen many posts about hesitation at launch and transfer case issues, but this seems different.

Any recommendations on how to proceed?

I'd bring it back and make sure that they document the concern on paper and also note that this is the third time coming to the service for the same specific issue that has nott been resolved the previous times.
I'd go to another dealer if your current dealer is not paying too much attention to your issues and tell them that you'll escalate the issue with BMW North America HQ in case they can't find anything wrong with the car.
You can ask the service manager to go out for a test drive with you and show what is happening to him to make sure they understand what is going on. Good luck.

I second calling and scheduling the service manager to come out with you on a drive. I have done that before and they know right away what the issue is if they are good.

Costco gas is top tier. We fill out 2015 x5 50i at costco and had no issues. Btw, you are getting premium fuel, right?

I fill up with Costco. There is nothing old about that gas. I think they only offer premium or regular.

Yeah Costco gas is top tier and there's nothing old about it. They sell so much gas so quickly and there are 8 or 10 lines of cars every time like people lining at phone store or reliving some kind of gas crisis lol. I'd pick a different dealer or service department and have them troubleshoot the problem.

Agree on Costco quality, numerous public tests on the quality, and how it is sourced, and that the additives are "top tier" rated.
I thought it was a BS call to say it is Costco gas quality at fault.

Problem with test drive is that it only happens occasionally.
When the engine stalls or stutters, does the car computer not log something as being wrong, that could be used as evidence or diagnostics?

I'll take it back to a different service adviser.
One can always tell the type of adviser by how they automatically log the replacement of cabin air filters, wiper blades, nitrogen air fill, etc., vs. having to ask for it.
