No sound from infotainment

2014 328xi Sport Wagon; 75525; suddenly no sound of any kind from infotainment system; dealer says Amp failure and wants 2311 to "replace and program"; The dealer is the only one on the state (Maine) and I've always suspected they don't actually fix anything, they trend toward just replacing; I've never had an Amp of any kind fail. In general, lots of things have failed the most expensive so far being front suspension replacement. My old 320 went to 198,000 without major part failures. THOUGHTS?

I used to fix things at the individual component level, replace resistors on standoffs in six-sided circuitboard boxes. Then I learned to replace surface mounted device flat-packs with a $10K soldering station. Then I installed the first backfit microelectronics large scale integrated instrumentation system which manufacturer wanted to repair the subassemblies.

They days of fix it are quite over.

My VW diesel Jetta went almost 20 years and almost 200K with no 'fixing' required, only planned and preemptive maintenance and parts replacement. It never failed to start or run.
Scepticism and Animal Faith (1923)
Scepticism is the chastity of the intellect, and it is shameful to surrender it too soon or to the first comer: there is nobility in preserving it coolly and proudly through long youth, until at last, in the ripeness of instinct and discretion, it can be safely exchanged for fidelity and happiness.

BF member Technic owns a very high end car audio company, and is very generous with his time and advice. Why don't you hit him up and see what he says? You could also reach out to the folks at Bavsound. They are running a 15% off special through the end of the month, and I bet you could upgrade your system for less than what Bill Dodge wants to charge you.
