Check the right front shock tower under the hood. Euro cars to my knowledge didnít have vins stamp ed in the usual locations. Dont you have this recorded somewhere from the previous owner or person who imported the car?

This is a picture of the front right shock tower. If I had it recorded I wouldnít be asking for help. The car was given to me. This tag is the only thing I could find.

Excuse my surprise but being given a car implies that the giver owned it ďlegallyĒ. Meaning there are records of that ownership somewhere.

Letís assume you found it in a junk yard for argument sake and there is no paper work.

Here is where I would look for a 7 digit vin. Yes 7 digits.

1. Did you find the VIN stamped into the panel that separates the engine compartment from the heater blower area?

2. Is there a VIN decal on the drivers side door.

3. Other odd places could be in the trunk area under the spare tire.

Did you look in the glove box for an Unmounted plate (loose).

If all else fails,Vehicles without a VIN can be registered at your local department of motor vehicles. Registering vehicles without a VIN varies by state. Go to your nearest motor vehicles office for details.

Ok - I did some research for you. Your car was built at. A BMW factory in the Czech Republic in 1984.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehi...ication_number

The TP part of the vin is the build country where the factory is located.
The 4 represents built for the US market.

Are you sure about that? According to that website, that decoding system is for the 17 digit VIN but you are applying it to this 7 digit number.
