Question, 2012 X3, 3.5i or 2014 X3, 2.8i which would you purchase?

Hi guys i have the option to own either a 2012 X3 3.5i M Sport, or a 2014 X3 2.8i M Sport, same milage, same option package. Which would you chose, and why? One is obviously newer. Thanks for your input.

I'd go with the 6 cylinder motor; the 4 cylinder motors prior to 2015 model year had some issues with the plastic timing chain guides breaking into pieces; IIRC BMW extended the warranty on the motors due to this issue. Read post #13 here https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sh...t=timing+chain.

What Wgosma said...……..stay away from the early models with N20 as timing chain/guides can implode your engine.

The 2012's had the N55 6 cycl…..hardier engine.

So i ended up trading my 2.8i x3 for a 3.5i x3. the difference between the two in substantial. Its just a different animal, very glad i made the switch. This feels like the BMW i wanted!

I would choose the 35i - Over all performance is great. I have 2011 - with no disappointments
