Shifter broke on 2007 530i, in need of help

Hello all,
I just recently purchased a 2007 BMW 530i and last weekend when I went to start my car, the engine didn't engage whatsoever. I had about 10 different pop up malfunction messages ranging from passenger restraint malfunction, to transmission malfunction, dynamic drive malfunction, you name it. I also noticed my car wouldn't shift out of park... after doing a little messing around, I realized the shifter had snapped a little ways down the plastic rod. Also, the shifter wasn't stock, someone thought it would be a good idea to put in an M5 shifter because they thought it'd look cool and my guess is they didn't put it in right. Is anyone familiar with this kind of repair? Thanks in advance for any input!

I have only seen them sold and changed out as a unit.
You can use www.realoem.com to find the part number.
Enter your VIN first.
You can also use www.newtis.info on how to change it out.
Again enter your VIN first.
