I'm 55. For the last 30 years I have admired BMW cars. I remember as a child, being in the back seat of a 528i driven by a friends dad (a dentist- who else could afford a BMW in those days) and being amazed at only being in 2nd gear going up a hill and hitting 50mph with a full car load of school kids. Yes 50mph what other car could do that !!! What a powerful and smooth car.

I bought a VW Passat ( a poor man's BMW) as I thought that BMW's were always out of my price range. Then 2 years ago circumstances changed and I was able to own my dream car. I love the handling, the seats and the tech and so much more. I am a BMW owner who would have thought.

I'm well into my 50s so it looks like I'm in the target age range for this thread. I bought a 328i 6MT because I really wanted a BMW with a stick. This is no longer an option on the larger models.

I'm 50 - 22. This is my second BMW. First was an E90 now I have an F30 even though the F30 doesn't drive nearly as great as the E90 I still love it. My ex fiancÚ's mother bought an f30 and since that day she got one I knew that's what I wanted. Drove plenty of cars in my time(worked at a dealership) which ever car was on the lot I always took it out for a drive. That was a fun job but had to move on to bigger and better things.

79 here. Looks like I am the longevity champ on this thread.

After a 6 and four 5's, I now have a 3 Sports Wagon. I've loved them all, but watched the 5's grow over the years to the point that I now find the current 3 a nimbler, handier size. For example, I had a 2003 5 Series Sports Wagon. My 2014 3 Series Wagon is almost exactly the same size in every direction, except that 2003 5 was 7 inches longer.

I'm very happy with my 3 now, and will probably do either a 3 or 4 next, depending on how they are in a couple of years.

The F30 handles better than the E39, e.g. E39, even with M-sport suspension, leans at corners even at DD speed. The F30(at least the RWD) does not lean much at corners during most DD conditions.

My expectation is that the next 3-series(G20?) will approach(or reach) E39 dimensions and weights.

53 here, and on my 4th BMW car with my 2015 330i LCI. The first auto transmission car I have ever purchased for myself. I was even reluctant to buy a 4 door car. Have purchased a 318i, 528i, and 2x X5's for She Who Must Be Obeyed (SHMBO). Have also had 6 BMW motorcycles in the past.

Have been either riding, or driving BMW's since 1981.

Cheers,

Ken

I drive a 530d e60 and I'm 36. My dad drives a 330d e91 and he's 66. He also has alloys that you'd expect to see on a 25 year olds car. Lol

Loved the 3 series until the F30 which was nothing short of boring. Moved to a 2 series which is much more fun to drive. When the 2 series lease is up going to Telsa Model 3. 68 years+

I'm only 49, so not sure if I qualify (yet... LOL)

I bought my first BMW in 2005, a 1999 323i convertible. Since buying that car, I've bought 3 BMW motorcycles, and most recently, replaced my convertible with the 335i I'm currently driving. I'm very happy with my vehicles.

What did you get a 5 year lease ? The tesla 3 will be delayed and of course then you will get into a lottery with the other people who want one.

One alternative is to buy/lease a Model S to jump ahead of non-Tesla owners in the wait list.

Reading some of the post make me really miss my old BMW. I had an 88 325ix. It was almost 20 years old when I got it. It was a California car, no rust! The odometer was broke at 320k miles. The car was in ment condition. All wheel drive manual shift. Never had that much fun driving a car. Had a 2009 5 series. Great car with slap stick a lots of power, but no where near as fun.

At 62 I am retiring at the end of the year. I just ordered my first BMW, a 328d Sports Wagon. Although I never had a BMW before my mother did have one back in the mid '70s. It was a coupe but I'm not sure about the model. Also, my brother had an Isetta (if that really counts as a BMW).

The 328d Sport Wagon was the only car out there that met my criteria of being a diesel hatchback with AWD. I had a 2002 VW Golf TDI and really became a diesel fan. Probably would have gone with VW except they didn't have diesel and AWD with their hatchbacks and then of course it turns out they are criminals. I didn't really think my wife would go along with spending $57,000 for a car (we are a one car family) but I managed to get her out for a test drive and she really loved the car. We are having PCD and she is looking forward to driving around the track. Who would have thought?

I got it with all the driver assist features (and actually pretty much all the options, see my build ID cxkzeqzy at the BMW NA website). I usually keep my car a long time and the diesels are particularly long lived, so I wanted all the latest driver assist features on account of my driving abilities will probably deteriorate over time. I also had to get the MSport option on account of my wife saw an Estoril Blue car at the dealership when we took the test drive and said that was the color she wanted. Oh, well, I sort of wanted the adaptable suspension anyway. She also loved the parking assist feature.

I'm enjoying the forum and now have a long list of mods and hacks I can do to keep me busy in my retirement.

2 series lease is up in 24 months. On the Tesla list and willing to wait. Drove a tesla model S cross country this summer (7000 miles total) and while it is not perfect it is an impressive car.

65+ and just got my second 3 series. Both with 6MT. Picked it up at at the Performance Center and spent two days driving the Tail of the Dragon and other twisty mountain roads.
What a rush. I'll keep driving a manual as long as my left leg still works.

Growing older but not up.

56 and still loving the 3.

I have had a 525i, two X5's, a 645ci convertible. And three 3 series. Two 325is(one convertible, one coupe), and a 330i. I am 56 years old and this week will pick up my 2012 335i Sport sedan. The 3 series is the best BMW series ever. This car will probably be the car I retire with. I keep coming back to the 3s.

50 next month, mostly love my 325ci

I turn 50 in less than a month. Last year I decided that I wanted a manual convertible with a back seat. Found a 2001 325 Ci with 74K miles in Colorado while on business, bought it, skipped out on my return flight, and drove it home to Michigan. I learned a lot about the car on that drive. Spent most of last summer doing maintenance projects on it. Still more that I want to do, tackling them on the weekends. It's my daily-ish driver, also serving as a carpooler with 2 other gentlemen of similar vintage (to me, not the car). It's a lot of fun even in Detroit freeway traffic, and an absolute blast with the top down. Not the most practical for my family of 5, but it makes me smile every time I start it up.

John.
