could be time to have a chat

My 435I 'vert is on schedule for may del. some how I think it just might be time to have a 'come to jesus meeting' w/some of the 'drivers' out there This will be my 1st BMW w/more than 2 or 3 wheels.Thru the yrs I have experienced nothing but good people and great help.
How ever-it seems that some [too many] in the 4 wheel group are so very important [to them selves] to be polite on the road. Today an important 3 series driver crossed 3 lanes of traffic in the rain to cut me off-then brake check me for no reason-I have it recorded-then went on being 'important' throwing junk out of the car hitting my veh. ye he is still alive and I am not in jail-because my wife was in our veh.
Sorry for the rant-be nice out there -- keep in mind an armed society is a polite society

A$$hats drive every kind of car--including Buicks. No need to make sweeping generalizations.

I get cut off by trucks and economy cars all the time. Usually Nissan cars, or crappy Corollas.

I cant speak for anyone else, but I have been driving BMWs for only 4 years now, and noticed that there is a definite difference in how people drive around me.

I dont drive much different than I did when I had, say, my maxima (2010), which is I drive what I would consider to be pretty conservatively. I drive slightly faster than the speed of traffic on the freeway, I let people in, I dont weave in and out of lanes at all etc.

I notice that people either want to race, or cut me off much more than any other car I was in before... especially Prius drivers (lmao).

I also notice that when I see a car weaving in and out of traffic, or speeding at an extreme nature on the freeway, it is more likely to be a BMW, followed by a Merc, (then a prius lmao!).

Personally I make sure to keep an even tally on cutting off people with the BMW's, the pickup truck or the SUV's. One of the SUV's is a Nissan so I believe all bases are covered.

Have read the evils of the driving habits of all these groups & want to make sure I am fair in equally applying the cutoffs & other bad things.

BMW autos and their drivers 'stick out' as 'elite' among all the veh. and drivers--thats why we are who we are and what we drive.Having said that-does it not fall to us to set a good and proper example? I feel that a driver of any car that brake checks another -reason or not- is a poor example to others, and if driving an elite veh. gives rise to 'all BMW drivers are jerks' I expect any/all drivers to do something silly/stupid at any time, but to cross 3 lanes of traffic to get into an open lane then brake check the the dually p/u for no reason -shows a bit of up scale stupid. to do so in a prius or old buick is bad enough - but in a BMW it shows that the driver is un worthy of the cars and its ability.
Just my thoughts but I expect more from folks that have the ware/with all to obtain these fine machines

Oh my--I saw someone driving a Prius drive into the wrong lane of traffic and pass 3 cars at a yellow light so he would not have to sit through another red cycle. He may have tossed his cigarette butt out the window while doing that--but I may be melding that with a different Prius driver I saw....

If other people think "All BMW drivers are jerks", that's their bias and their problem. I don't need to set an example for the world--I'm not sure what point it serves anyway. I see piss-poor drivers every day, driving all sorts of cars.

There are so many BMW's on the road, especially 3/4 series, they don't seem to draw any special or unwanted attention.

You're only "elite" in your own mind. Trust me on this. Come back and brag when you have a McLaren or GT3 RS in your garage.

Agree with Tex, Bob & Quackbury. IMHO people who worry about what other people think are generally frozen into inactivity because no matter what they do in life they will undoubtedly p**s someone off.

You are a saint in real life to some you will be a goody two shoes. You drive a BMW in an upscale area & you are invisible. You drive one in a lower working class area you are a showoff wannaB. Drive one in Bel Air, CA or Brookville, NY (The Great Gatsby) & you are the meter reader.

I've never felt like i'm targeted for being cut off or had others attempt to race me. I think it's you, not them.

Sarcasm does not tend to work well in these forums. Just chalk the thoughtful responses up to a difference of opinion.

I find that I am treated differently by other drivers depending if I'm in the 328 or the M6. In the 3er, I will get cut-off, blocked, or raced-against by almost everyone; Prius' up through big diesel pick-ups. Even though native Marylanders have no concept of keep right (not taught in drivers ed), most people move over to let the M6 pass.

I am new to BMW as well, leased my first 335i back in July 2015. Have had numerous Volvos prior to switching to BMW. I am still the same driver I was in my Volvos that I am now in the BMW. I'm in my late 20s and tend to drive more spiritually than conservatively but did the same in my S60 T6. I have noticed that I get cut off much more frequently than I did in the Volvo. I drive the same commute to work, same time everyday. I think people see BMW think that I'm an a**hole automatically since I drive a BMW and cut me off either that or they think I care about my car (which I do) and will likely take the precautions necessary to ensure that I do not hit the D-bag that is cutting me off. I tend to find that the culprits are usually people driving a brand more synonymous with economy than luxury.

Just my .02. I noticed getting cut off much more frequently than in my previous cars.

This comment probably belongs on the European Delivery forum, but driving the Autobahn, the Volkswagen and Opel Touring Cars (Station Wagons) stand out as the wannabees challenging your European Delivery BMW or Mercedes.

If anyone really wants to know how bad cagers drive, ride a motorcycle and observe traffic patterns. Some people think, and sometimes they do not realize they think this, that they are safe, extra protected, and maybe even invincible. While riding my motorcycle, I've seen many things, including a driver that cut across 6 lanes of traffic (in SoCal) to catch their exit, almost forcing me off the road.

My advice to anyone who wants it: drive (and ride, if you are a motorcyclist) defensively. You may have the right-of-way or be driving safely, and someone else can still cause you to crash. Anticipate, be less distracted, and be defensive.

And, one last thing, IMHO, $hit-ty drivers come in all shapes and sizes and drive all types of cars from the crappiest beater to the most expensive hyper car.

I think Corolla and Prius drivers are the worst. They always seem to be ones driving at or below speed limit in the left lane...
