Advice on a 645

Hey guys...I bought my first Bimmer a few years ago as a daily work driver. It is a 325I Sedan. I must admit that I love the little car. It makes me want a nicer one for the weekends. I have seen some 645s on Craigslist for sale for what seems like some super prices. Any one have any input? Any pros or cons? My 325 has 225000 and I have had to do some small maintenance jobs. Should I be afraid of a 6 series with 100K on it?

Thanks in advance..

Robbie

You`re really talking apples and oranges here....you`d probably get better responses over on the Sixer Forum....

My uncle just purchased a 645 and absolutely loves that thing. He came from a 328i I must say I would get an M for a weekend warrior but you obviously know what you want so I agree with RN. This sounds like a good car for you!

I have had a 650 for five years and love it. It has under 50k miles and has been 100% trouble free - as it should be.
That being said they have their troublespots as they age. They are all equipped with the N62 motor which has two weak points. First is the coolant pipe that runs in the middle of the Motor. Easy to spot coolant leak via weep hole on format of engine. Aftermarket is coming to rescue with more affordable fixes than dealer. Then there are the valve stem seals. They deteriorate and you have a smoking Bimmer. There is an aftermarket repair kit, but it's beyond most DIY abilities.
Other than that you have typical BMW problems at the mileage you are looking at. Oil seals start failing, trans gets dicey if it has not been maintained properly.

They're great to drive, feel like a much larger and heavier car than E46, and very comfy and powerful for longs trips. They are expensive to fix when something does go wrong so a PPI is a most have at the mileage you are looking at.

The 45 had some things fixed when they moved to the 50. However, used car buyers sometimes overreact and price the pre-fix model lower than math on repairs would indicate.

The idrive in the early 6-series is also very annoying and they got the improved UI later.
