G30 (2017 - Current)
The next generation 5 Series, chassis code G30, arrives at dealers in February 2017. Looking like a scaled down 7 Series and riding on the CLAR platform, the new 5 Series will have a focus on lightweight and sporty performance. Engines options will come from BMW's new B family for the 530 and 540 and a turbocharged V8 for the M550i. Read more about the 2017 5 Series

Blendmount V1 Gesture Control

Anyone having issues with a V1ís laser sensor being triggered by the gesture control? I was told to put electrical tape over the rear sensor. I think because Iím using blend mount itís too close to the gesture control beams.

Yes. I turned off the laser sensor on the V1. Its unfortunate that the lasers are active even when you turn off gesture control.

Thereís so much tech in the car beaming all types of stuff on us. Wish V1 I could just disable the rear laser. Although I feel the V1 gives me an alert every time a volvo passed.

Yep just turned off the laser and now V1 works great much less false alarms- It wasn't only the internal M550 stuff but may bright brake lights of SUV's would trigger the laser detector

The few times i've been confronted the laser is so instantaneous they got your as soon as the detector beeps - (got off with a warning)n

Has anyone tried to throw black tape over the Gesture Control sensor in the overhead as a way to address V1/Gesture issues? IMO, Gesture is kind of silly in the first place.

There was a thread on this way back. Turning off the gesture control in I Drive does not turn off the laser sensor in the overhead console, however, it was said you could tape over the sensor, towards the front of the overhead, and V1 would quit triggering. I am about to try it myself.

My Escort 360 Max was doing the same thing when I had it under the rear view mirror, I moved it about where the visor is and it quite doing it. I was wondering about that same phenomenon.

Thanks for the enlightenment.

Are you sure the issue isn't being caused by the proximity sensors on the iDrive screen. If you shine a bright light, you'll see six squares - three on each side. They spill out loads of IR. You could try covering those too as an experiment.
