Also, End of Production doesn't mean some sort of Z4 Rapture occurs and they disappear off the Dealer's lots *poof*. I daresay that there will be new Z4s unsold until at least the new model is officially unveiled, and there will be a few poorly optioned 3.0i glued to the lots still when they start shipping the Zn. That's when you can get a really good deal on an '08.

I'm wondering if the E85/6 MZ4 will be the last six-cylinder M car.

I think the M3 should be a good example of how the Zs will go...they ended production in the fall of 06...and no one saw one in the states until early this year. If they end production of the current Z line in september...than the perfect place to debut the new Z would be the Paris auto show in October. After that it'll probably take months for them to actually ship...and since they'll be made in Deutschland...it'll take longer for them to get to the states.

keep all the Z car posts together. Even though I have the current Mcoupe, I will be interested to read about the new Zcar on in this forum and keeping all the posts together will facilitate that....

I'd say it's a safe bet this is the last normally-aspirated I6 in an M car (a large part of why I bought one, actually). They've already indicated that there may be some turbocharged M cars down the line.

The E89 Z4 will be released in December and the current will stop production as previously mentioned.

The new car will feature quite a bit of new technologies, some for the good (Agile Drive)and others (electric parking brake) for the questionable.

Ummm sources within BMW. The photos shoots and commercials are already being edited.

Please see my other site for more details...
http://www.bimmerfile.com/index.php?s=E89

I also would recommend splitting the past Z and the future Z up, there is a lot of newer tech in the next gen and there may be a lot of confusion to future members, but that is just my opinion. Also. there will be a Z2 in the not so distant future so that will add to the confusion. (The info about the use of PSA engines was also disclosed by sources well in advance of the official announcement.)

There are a few other things that can be disclosed a later time this summer....

It is a hard top or soft top, there will be no coupe option at this time.

I guess time will tell but I'd add 8 months to a year to on to your estimate before we see a new Z4 being delivered to happy customers.

This year....

Not sure why they would already be filming if they were going to wait a year... they also need to move it out of SC sooner than later as the current X3 will be dropped in advance of the normal life cycle so increases at the plant must be completed in a timely manner. The Mini SAV will also take the X3s place at Magna.

I think we should consider going to a new grouping for the ones from germany. They won't care about Homecoming. They may not even be roadsters, just hard top convertibles. I say keep the Z3 and Z4 together, make a split when the new ones come out.

I'm not saying that they'd wait, but I am saying that car manufacturers tend to do things in a certain order...release at auto show...build cars...ship cars. And all of that takes a lot of time.

If what you're saying is that BMW has hidden lots full of built Z4s somewhere, than maybe you're right...

Not saying they are stock piling cars but they will have a limited release this year, this is not a volume car and and they have things all planned out (from what we have been told).

You are right though, we will see. The 7 is on the same path though....07.07.08 press preview, Launch at Paris. to dealers in October.

Expect the Preview for the Z in the fall, then release at LA then to dealers in December.

(I was told Holiday 2008 if that helps!).

I am very interested in how they market this car with the slow sales late on with the current model....

z3 z4

Back in the beginning when the z4 first came out we voted if the z4 needed its own forum. We decided the z3 and z4 could be together in one. I realize now, that was a mistake.

Not anything about the z4, its just a pain to wade thru non relivent posts about a car that has no common issues, mods or repairs to z3 owners.

IMHO

Great car the Z4. But its very different from the E36 7/8.

Yup..

I now agree. Intially didn't feel that way, but now that I've seen the other forum I like the split format.

ANy guesses as to what the car will start at in terms of price? Will there be a big jump? Will it start way above 40k as compared to the $36,400 the current Z starts at?
The more I think about it I see the price probably jumping up $10k to be comparable with with the Boxster and SLK.

I hope maybe some pictures from these shoots might slip out to the public or that maybe someone will see them and get a shot without camo/swirls.
