RaceChip input/feedback

I am interested in adding a RaceChip to a 2012, 35i.

I'm wondering what performance improvements you've seen.
Any downsides?
Is there any risk to the motor or other electronics in the car?

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Pete

Mein Auto: Z4 35is
Hi Pete, I have a RaceChip GTS for a Z4. 2011 35is. I have only used it a couple of hours on the last setting of 3 tried (out of the 7). I tried settings of 4 and 5, but was getting engine faults. Used iphone Carly app to reset. I “think” there is some hp improvement from this. I was very happy with the power before this addition (seems overpowered which of course is sweet, so wanted to try this for a bit more). My next step is to see how I can tie in obd sensor readings to measure hp and see if anything to be concerned about. If anyone has any ideas on how to go about this, it would be great to give it a try. Note that my understanding is this unit for the Z4 does not support bluetooth and subsequently does not support the racechip iphone app . I tried connecting it as well. Other notes if you end up getting this are (1) be aware of placement of the box for heat concerns, (2) for me the engine cover did not need to be removed for installation, and (3) a flathead screwdriver may be useful for disconnecting the pressure.connectors (be careful though not to break connectors). I do not know if this car had any ecu tuning since bought used but I doubt it since got it from a dealer(sidenote was non BMW). The quality of the box seems good, and the installation was overall positive (but took me longer than 10 minutes). Good luck in your decision. Best

Mein Auto: 2015 BMW Z4 35i,
Hi, I tried a RaceChip RS in my '15 35i. It was a disaster. Went back to RC 3 times for reprograming. Kept on throwing a CEL every time I got it back. Finally returned it for a refund and got a Dinan Stage 2 installed. Day and night difference. The Dinan tune WORKS with NO problems. Bit more expensive but it works. Don't waste your time on the RaceChip, just pay a bit more and get the Dinan. You'll be glad you did.
