E64 exhaust

I have a m6 2008 convertible. I am looking to increase the exhaust sound without going through the expense of a whole new system. Thinking of removing the mufflers. Any thoughts?

I bought my E64 last summer first thing I did was eliminate the secondary cats and resonators. They are located right after the main cats that are connected to the exhaust manifold. I noticed a difference but not big enough for me to be satisfied. This coming up spring Iím looking to eliminate my mufflers. Iíve heard that makes the beast roar.

Initially, I cut the resonator and secondary cats first to see how I liked it. I have a video of the sound on my YouTube channel, bimyota ( https://m.youtube.com/channel/UC3EapQ3kaCDnbD9iknVKIvQ ). I just, literally today, chopped the mufflers and had 3 inch pipes installed. I'll post a video of those soon.

The easy answer is the secondary cats and resonator. It was cheap and makes a big difference at high RPM without sacrificing the soft sound at low RPM. It had a bit of a raspy sound, though.

I wanted the car to sound like the racecar it was meant to be so I went with a full straight pipe. This, of course, is not including the primary cats which are located on the headers. Just on the drive home I noticed how insanely loud it really is now. It sounds fine under 2,500 RPM but get past that and you'll wake the neighbors... in the next state. I love it. Not annoying at all while cruising. Insane when desired.

Hope this helps.

I have just purchased my M6 last month and bought an Eisenmann Race Exhaust (Mufflers) with Oval Tips and the Supersprint X-pipe! It's all custom made in Europe so still waiting. I bought Eisenmann for my M5 and loved it. This is not a cheap route by any means. So far little over $3K will install myself.

Can post pictures when completed!

Any codes or issues with removing the secondary Cats?
