New Z4 Model

When does BMW plan to make the announcement for the all new Z4? I've seen ghost pictures of it and it looks bigger and different that the current car. Thank you!

The G29 is supposed to go on sale as early as January, depending on the location of the dealership.

I am not sure. But, from what I have read BMW is going back to the cloth top conv. for this car. I was at Rick Hendrix BMW Dealership this past weekend and I was talking with Dan a salesmen their and he told me it should be available in June of 2019. I cannot wait to see it. I think it is gonna be pretty hard for BMW to trump the current Z4. But, we will see. Good day.

I was at the BMW performance center this past week and was talking to several BMW marketing staff members about the new Z4 coming out next year. I was told that So Cal will receive their first shipment of new Z4's in March of next year and will be one of the first areas to receive the car. Time will tell.

After years of rumors, spy shots, and leaks, it looks as though the full public release for the new BMW Z4 is just a few weeks out. BMW is teasing the debut of an “all-new BMW production car” slated to drop cover during Monterey Car Week.

Just read in the Roundel that the soft top will have a rigid panel underneath the front segment to reduce wind noise.

Various auto news/blogs are anticipating the debut of the new Z4 ragtop to be at the 2018 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The scheduled BMW press conference will take place next week at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance Reviewing Stand Aug. 23.

Apparently full specs will be released by BMW on 19 September. I am getting more and more interested in this car if I can get over that new dash design.

Interesting that the new Z will be produced in Austria at the Magna Steyr plant. The biggest news to come out will be the price point for the 2019 production version. For a car that does not sell in volume, there are a lot of design and model costs to be recouped. The e89 was a quantum leap higher than the e85, I expect the same to be true for the G29. Z4M40i just sounds expensive!

Some of that design cost may have been mitigated by cooperating with Toyota.

The new Z is a bit confusing in it's exterior design layout IMO. It takes design cues from all over the place...The stacked headlamp design, that pushes the clusters back into the wings and hood, are new territory for BMW. The flared nostrils are unmistakably Kia/Mercedes take aways...Not that the look isn't nice, but the similarities are striking. The overall lines are too muddled and less harmonious than the previous-gen Z4 which was a smooth, shark-like affair; the new Z4 is more angular and technical. 50:50 balance is maintained in true Bmw tradition and the track is wide while the wheelbase is short; the classic roadster proportions of a long hood and a cabin pushed well back are all there.
The new Bmw interiors I quite like though...first saw this new look in the new X and 3 series G20.

Here is an article on the release

Positive points 1) they finally have head up display!!!! 2) It looks like the nav will not be crap 3) The speedometer and gauges look cool.

Negatives 1) I hate the side view with the black slash. Where is my side Roundel? 2) Front air scoops look strange, but that's BMW's new look 3) This version with the ghetto back wheels is not my preference 4) Ragtop - Woof! 5) kidney grills new look? 6) sprinkling a few M Badges around does not make it an M 7) the rear end faux scoops look strange too 8) I don't like the hood as much as the e89 version

The engine on the top trim level isn't a significant upgrade from the e89. A few more hoses, but nothing significant.

Overall, this appears to be a step backward. Wait until they tell us the price.

Ghetto back wheels?

Black is nice because they don’t show dirt as quickly.

Too many air scoops

It incorporates all the aggressive cliches of the last few years. Big black front maw. Exaggerated M scoops which BMW introduced around 2014 and everyone copied including Camry. Side slashes and scoops like jaguar and Lexus et al. Thats a lot for such a small vehicle. All these ideas are getting dated already and so I hoped they would have something fresher for a new model that needs to last abt 7 years. The interior is also getting blingy with added bright work. All in all not very Germanic. It actually looks OK for now and I could live with, say, a dark blue or dark silver to help blend all the eye candy.

Notice, if you live in New England you're going to have to drill your front bumper to mount the front license plate. Why do we have to deface our new Z to comply with the front plate law? Europe requires a front plate, which is longer, and narrower than any plate in the U.S. Maybe a requirement to import these cars should be a front mount.

A tach that goes counter-clockwise? Why? Just to be different from every other BMW (probably every other auto, period) ever made? Whose brilliant idea was that?

Otherwise, I like the interior. Though other than the San Francisco Red, the exterior choices are pretty boring. Hopefully Individual will be available.

Any news on whether a 6MT will be available?

I really liked your opinion on the style of the new Z4.

If I may complement it, I’d add that overall it looks so darn cheap. A Toyota will likely be more ornate and careful with details. All the black cheap looking plastic is just hideous.

The dash panel looks like a flashback from the 80’s. I hate to say it but any Mazda (God forgive me as I say it) looks more attractive than this. I won’t compare it to other BMWs, because they all look like from Benz’s from the 80’s and 90’s.

And not to mention the price, that of course will come above the gorgeous and classy E89 (my girl).

Verdict: IT IWLL BE A FLOP.
