Unhappy 645 Won't start

My 05' 645 BMW won't start. The engine will crank but won't turn over. Although, the horn will blow, the lights and radio come on, I tried to jump start the battery, thinking it was not charged enough to start the car. It still won't start. The battery indicator in the trunk is black meaning the charge is low, but it still won't jump start. What do you think the problem is?

I found out the problem was the fuel pump, cost $900 dollars parts and labor at the BMW dealership, thank God for the extended warranty, cost $50. I found out with the BMW extended warranty there is a $50 deductible for repairs.

Question Brake recall

While they were repairing my fuel pump, I inquired about the Brake recall, As someone else reported on the forum, it is "unofficial" BMW is trying to make sure they have all the parts in stock and then they will send out letters to owners. It will be for All 6 series from 04 to 10.

Can you tell me more about the brake recall? And anyone following this post, what battery should do you recommend putting in? Could I get it from Checker or do I need to go through BMW? Thanks!

I just replaced the battery in my 645. First I went to the Dealer and they wanted $500. The SA told me if I went with an aftermarket that it would not operate all the functions. I decided to call his bluff and went to Sams club and got the same specifications as the OEM and had it installed for $86 with a 3 year warranty. I figured hey what the heck if it doesn't work I'm out $86 and I'll get it from the dealer. 2,000 miles later everything is perfect and I didn't even have to get it reprogrammed. The only function that had to be reset was the clock. Some posters on here said they went to Autozone and got there battery for $150. When I did some more investigating I found out that 99.9% of the batteries sold in the US are mass made by Johnson Batteries and sold to the different brands carried by auto parts stores and retail outlets.

Anyways its working for me and I saved $414!! I also put the same Sams Club battery in my wifes 2007 32*i and it is working perfect.

Just a thought......

I know it sounds crazy to put a $86 battery in a $80,000 Sports Car but the car still looks and runs the same.

Battery Replaced by AutoZone not BMW

So...I went to start my car and the battery was dead. So, being 4pm on a Saturday, I decided to locate a battery at an AutoZone (per some of the poster's advice) and found one after a couple calls. I went there and purchased the one for $140 +tax. I was so worried that the electronics were going to stop working or problems arise that I tipped the guy helping me and we jumpered his vehicle's battery to my 645's front engine jumper area while we replaced the battery in the trunk.

Well, so far none of my settings went out and all seems to be working perfectly well. If anything changes for the worst I'll post to let everyone know--but assume that all is good. That's $325 in the pocket for now.

It's the Brake Booster. I had the problem occur before the recall on my 645. Essentially, the booster enhances the press of the brake pedal to get the car to apply the brakes. When malfuntioning, you have to press REALLY REALLY hard to get just a minor amount of brakes to apply. Could be VERY dangerous if the booster went while driving. Mine died in my driveway.

Break booster was replaced/repaired on my car. I noticed that it took LOTS of pressure on the brake pedal to stop the car. Repaired under original warranty.

Ah, the beauty of the internet, it debunks the mystique in OEM parts.

It is a battery and it is a car. Certain items in your vehicle are not luxury brand specific. Glass, mirrors, rims, tires, battery, the list could go on. Besides, it seems that a good portion of the folks on this board bought their car used for $45k or less. In that case it is just a $45k car.

So, did you figure out what is causing the problem with your starting issue? As a follow up with my battery issue--its been 4 days and nothing seems wrong with the car after replacing the battery with an Autozone battery.

Change your IVM module that is located in the DME box under the passenger cabin filter. This can be purchased online or at the local BMW dealer. Your cost while be around 120.00, & the dealers stock them due to the failure rate.

Are you talking about the box with around 8 fuses in it? Have you measured the battery voltage to make sure it is above 12 volts, the car will not run properly with less. The next item would probably be to try syncing the DME & CAS.

Yes the black box with the fuses (IVM). how much will it cost to sync the dme, also my idrive displays batterie high drain.Early in the morning itll stsrt with no problems , and after work...but if iwas to drive to the store, go in and come out, like 10mins , then the same crap will happen, it will have to sit for 25 -35mins.

Your problem sounds more like a battery, or alternator issue. After the car has had some wait time for the battery to recover, the voltage on the battery recovers. I would have your battery & alternator tested to see if they are ok? When you have your no start problem, raise the hood & measure the battery voltage at the jump terminal. With the engine off, ignition switched on, & the headlights on, measure the battery voltage. The voltage should be above above 12 volts with the engine off, & 14.12 volts with the engine running. If your battery voltage is low, try charging your battery to see if that helps?

Have you added any aftermarket parts that put a drain on the battery? If you have, it might be your problem?

A new battery does not mean it is properly charged. If you are having to jump start the car, charge your battery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

Check your ground straps to the starter and motor. Check my recent post about fuel purge valves.
