Do you wave at other BMWs?

It's a Jeep thing.
It was a Land Rover thing, except for the plastic barbie wives, no point in waving to them.
Kinda stopped being a Rangie thing when rappers started buying them.
Could always get a wave from a Series truck or an older Disco.

I've waved at other BMWs, except for the X cars, they're generally barbie wives.
1 return wave in about 15 months.

If some random BMW driver waved at you, would you wave back?

We Islanders wave at every neighbor in the winter when it's good to see someone out and about and well enough. The Island Wave.

I wave at BMWs from my X5

I grew up in a, learned to drive in a 1960 LR S-II 88" and always waved.

I guess if someone waved at me I'd try to wave back and then wonder what he was waving at me about. I did have a guy pull up next to me in a Porsche and tell me I had a nice car (Z4 pictured). Then he asked me where I put my golf clubs and I told him in my other car. He just laughed and we took off from the light.

I waved at a guy in a debadged 1 series Coupe when he matched my speed on the highway. Not sure what he was thinking but he matted it and took off. I just kept on going with the cruise control.

I think BMW is not in that phase of "people who know it" drive it. Too many of them on the road in the hands of people who have no clue. Now, if we could know who has for example stick shift that might be a thing.

Sure I'd wave back....but I'd take it as the Courtesy Wave not a BMW Wave. We're lousy w/BMW here anyway. We'd be flappin' our hands so much, collisions would spike.

'Course, depends on who's wavin'....

Around here, it really seems to be a "look how much I spent on my car" sort of thing.

But...

Yesterday evening, I had to run out somewhere.
Coming toward me is a blonde woman driving an X3.
And I thought, "not gonna bother"...
As we got closer, she got a huge smile on her face and gave me a big wave.
Obviously, I waved back.

And just like that, my ill-conceived stereotype was smashed.
I love when that happens.

+1 I think that phase was pretty much over when they stopped making 2002's (E10's).

Modern BMW waves are like Civic waves. The brand has gotten so diluted and mainstream, why bother? They make SUVs and barely a manual transmission-equipped car these days, that says it all (and I own one). Might as well start the minivan wave.

Now, if itís a CLASSIC BMW wave from an E24 to an E10 owner, well thatís a different story.

I wave at really old cars in good shape, and visibly original. The condition and originality are more important than the type of car.

Any idiot can lease a BMW G-whatever.

I saw a Mercedes-Benz W115 240D today in traffic. It was a later one (1973-1976) with the big bumpers and no vent windows on the front doors. The paint looked original, still had a shine but not looking new. No rust, though. Somebody's been taking care of that car for ~45 years. It wasn't just the driver. He looked 20 to 25 years old.

The previous two cars to get my attention was a third-generation Civic, and a 1969 Buick Electra 225 (identical to the one my neighbors had in 1969).

That brings back memories. 0-60 mph calculated with calendar. Tractor engine, diesel shudder. Fill up at truck stops. Glow plugs, 30 seconds to start. Illinois winters, block heater and all, starting ordeals. Running the extension cord over snow. Didn't know about GFIs.

Cast iron engine. Would run forever. German taxis, 1 Million miles.

I'd pro'ly wave back at her mom.

My best girl watching was at the recycling bins Saturday mornings... before Bubba County stopped collecting recyclables. Chicks dig recycling. They were a lot more friendly when I was driving my BMW. Ö. Chevy Cobalt... not so much.
