New owner....I find that I am obsessed with my car!

Is anyone else finding themselves obsessed with thier car? I just bought the car a week ago and it was already in great condition but I find myself wanting to detail the heck out of it every chance I get! I have two Harley Davidson motorcycles that I love but they seem to be taking a back seat to the BMW lately. The only thing that I am not too crazy about the sound system. I would like to upgrade it but I also want to keep the original dash unit. Any suggestions?

I'm definitely obsessed with mine. Constant washing and detailing, I just love it! There are a few threads about upgrading the sound system but I personally don't think a true high quality set-up can be utilized to its fullest with the stock dash unit.

Congrats on the new ride! You are not alone in your obsession I promise you

I've had my car for about a year now and I still sit outside and just go into a daze looking at it.

Regarding the sound system; the factory system can be a little tricky to "upgrade" for a fair price. Odd speaker resistance and size combined with other "not typical" design features makes it hard to plug-n-play. If you don't have too much worries about the budget then check out Bavarian Sound Works (Werks?). They have created some good plug-n-play upgrades for our E46's. If you are limited with the funds then I'd say do some research on here and see what direction and how far you would want to go.

When you're at the main thread page, if you look at the top right of the screen you'll see "Search thread". Input a variety of things from "Audio Upgrade" to "Replacement speakers" and you will find a wealth of information to scan through to help you make the decision on which route you'd like to take.

Good luck, share pictures if you'd like

Yes that comes along with owning a E46, constant washing and waxing, and waking up in the middle of the night wanting to drive it

I'm definitely obsessed with mine. I keep looking for excuses to do something or another to it. Lately I've been obsessed with coding these cars, and have figured out how to do a lot of things that just weren't possible before.

Yea, happens to us all. Of course, in my case the "tinkering" led to some pretty major mods. My car used to be Alpine White with tan interior and an automatic. Now it is Alpine White with a black roof, black interior, and 5 speed manual (all done by me and all came from "tinkering"). Just keep it within reason and you will be fine.

I have had mine for two weeks tomorrow... and I am itching to wash it, remove the front plate and put in my matte black grilles I bought for it... hopefully the rain will let up this weekend like they say it will so I can!! I go out to the garage just to look at it my poor C230 just sits in the 3rd garage bay whimpering because I show it no attention anymore

I want either a cinnamon or an imola red interior in my Alpine White coupe... the guy who did the cinnamon (Neil I think) really makes me want that swap (because there is no way I will delve into the project he did).

Your definitely not alone and time doesn't cure the affliction. I got my first BMW in 1980. 15 years later it was replaced by a 325is that was my DD for 12 years. In between there were a few other that came and went. One 325es my son and I both want back. All of these cars were purchased used and all were breathed on, some more than others but all were obsessed over.
Just last week I added a new one, a '05 330i. Even though I'm now old enough to know better I've still been the garage almost every day just touching things up. The list of mods is being made and the budget is being checked.
So, don't be concerned just accept it and enjoy.

Obsession

Agreed, only had mine 4 days and am twitching to go for another drive as soon as I get home... Already polished her to within an inch of her life, buffed the chrome, cleaned / polished the alloys and a mental interior valet !

Ultimate driving machine is right !!

(My old man just had a go in her, he's just bought an X-type Jag, and he's gutted !!! lol )

Across the river from you and I don't let the rain stop me, I go out and wash it anyway, the rain is just the rinse.

As far as obsessed...I bought my first almost two years ago(1994 E36) pics in garage, and just recently upgraded to the 03. At this rate I should be in a 2012 by next year...lol...I wish...

It's only natural, after just six months of ownership I am still in love with mine.

I have owned mine for almost a month and I cannot get enough of it. Detailed it twice. Spending quite a bit of $$ installing new filters, fulids and other missing/broken parts. Took it to my body shop and had all the "dings" corrected. It is a great car and a wonderful ride.

OP - I've got bad news for you...it doesn't go away!!

1.5 years for me and I am constantly looking for excuses to go for a spin. When I can't, I gaze at her through the windows or walk around wiping bits of dust off; clean the windows; ck fluids etc. It's really quite pathetic!!

I have a friend in Vernon BC that took his out for an evening spin the other day and found himself in Calgary...6 hours away!! He just coudn't stop driving.

Enjoy your new ride. Certainly sounds like you are.

I forget where I saw it on here and who said it, but people ask if it is a "Head Turner", and this poster stated that "Yeah, I turn my head and look back at it every time I walk away"...or something similar to that.

How true it is...we love em.

Mine turns my head every day.

Obsessed? You bet! I waited a long time to get my first BMW and about 2 months ago, I finally got to put my 2001 330 on the road. Can't stop looking at her. The other day, at work I was so busy looking back and not watching where I was going, that I almost got creamed in the mall parking lot by the bus. Imagine the irony...killed by a city bus walking away from my bimmer! lol

Given the extensive mods you have accomplished I would love to know what mods you think are outside the bounds of reason.
