Red face Child Car seat advice... please? !!

Ok, I know you petrolheads are prob. booing me for bringing talk of wife and child in here... :S

But.. I have an E46 2002 325Ci, and am about to purchase a car seat for an expected baby..

By the look of things, the Isofix seats offer better protection, but have ungodly bases that look like they'll trash the leather on the back seat !

I need to know;
Does anyone have an Isofix seat in a 325Ci and can they let me know about the size/position as the rear seat is more of a 2-seater..

Does anyone with a 325Ci have an Isofix on leather, or know about any possible nastiness this could bring?

Are the Iso's really that much better than a normal seat (assuming I can install it correctly.. I have had kid seats in the past..)

Would putting down a matt under the base affect the seats performance?

and finally, can anyone reccomend the perfect seat (in thier opinion of course) or should I just get one of these travel-system buggies where the top comes off and is a perfectly good car seat..

(Travel system is money-saver as in-laws want to buy the pram, so they would also be buying the car seat.. ha !)

Any help / advice muchly and greatly appreciated..
