Don't use my auto start/stop 2015 320i

Can I expect my starter to last a lot longer since I don't use the auto start/stop feature?

It should increase it's longevity just like if you didn't use your tires as much.

How long will you own the car? How many miles do you drive a year? And where do you drive?

You may be solving a non-existent problem.

Same questions I would have and also you are looking at a part that stickers for $242.66 at FCP Euro. Not something I would lose a lot of sleep over.

Doug's got a point. They make starters more durable to handle ASS. But, the engine and the turbocharger experience a short interruption in oil flow at start and stop. I don't use my ASS, because I keep my cars to about 100k miles. Idling burns somewhere between 0.25 and 0.5 gallons/hour, varying greatly with AC use.

There is more technology to ASS than the starter. For instance, the rod end bearings are polymer coated for zero speed 'lubrication'. That may be the greatest advance.

Indeed. For a meaningful comparison the value of fuel saved over 300,000 miles should be subtracted from the cost of a new starter.

It is fascinating that BMW can improve rod end bearings, but somehow still has timing chain issues in N20/N26.

I tend to keep my cars a long time. It wouldn't be unusual to have this car until 200K. The two cars previously owned before this one went to 200K.

I don't disable to save on the starter. Where I drive traffic is manageable and the lights are short. Considering the 7-second threshold for any benefit, this feature is more of a nuisance than a gas-saver.

I saw a start-stop starter unit where I work. There is a lot of engineering in them. I thought they were around $800.
