Well that was short lived..

Well, 1 month and 10 days after bring my 325i back from Chicago I successfully wrecked the s*** out of it. Hit a patch of ice, regained control only to slide over another patch, and off the road into 2 trees. FML

I'll have pictures of the wreck tomorrow once I go over to the body shop where it's at. Waiting to hear from the adjuster on whether or not it's totaled. I'm thinking so, the whole front end is smashed in, front axle is nice and twisted, and the airbags went off. Honestly i'm just happy I walked away with-out injury.

Anywho, i've already begun shopping for the next e9x incase mine turns out to be totaled.

I've come across a '06 330i, fully loaded, sport, prem, cold, idrive for 17700. There's one catch, it's a salvage title due to fresh water breaching the cabin. Is this a big no-no? I was thinking about flying down to test drive it later this week, and i'm contemplating whether it is even worth it or not.

Wow, I'd be catatonic right about now. So sorry to hear about the accident. Glad you are okay and walked away from it. That's a testament to all those features built into these cars you hope you never have to use.

Generally stay far away from rebuilt/salvage titles.

There's a reason why the big guys (insurance) totaled these cars in the first place.

Oh, and that sucks about your car, sorry to hear man.

It seems suspicious that they would total out the car from a little water getting in the interior. I think the owner isn't telling you something, and chances are he bought it back from the insurance company for a lot cheaper than $17,700. You have to think about when the time comes to sell how that title will affect resale (if the car isn't wrapped around a tree by then...).

Well i'm looking into reputable indy shops around dallas that would be able to take a look at it, before I fly down to test drive it.

I've found many other cars that are fitting the bill for a little more $, which means it's really not a big deal if I pass on this car, I was going to try to get him down to around 16k, which i think is a steal as long as all of the driveability is retained.

Another question, for those who may know. Once a car has rebuilt/salvage title, is the warranty still honored?

Wow thanks alot dude. This is my first incident in an automobile.. Never had any tickets, have never been in any accidents or anything. I always drive my vehicle responsibly, it was purely an accident due to inclement weather conditions.

Go back and re-read what Galahad wrote. You asked for an opinion. You got it from someone who knows what the f he is talking about. I strongly support his opinion. So now there are two of us saying the same thing.
If you buy a car which has been submerged there are two ways things will go bad;
Immediately and forever if it was salt water.
Later and forever if it was fresh water.

You could not buy this car cheap enough.

Let me be a little more clear as to what you face. Go round up 25 of your closest friends. Throw all their iPods and laptops and cell phones into a very deep puddle. Fish them out. Dry them out. How many of them are still working? How many do you think will still be working in a year?
Now multiply the ramnifications of failure of any one of those devices times a hundred and you can begin to get an idea of what you would be buying.

Thanks, i really appreciate it.

Found my repair shop of choice, Eveland Bros. in Overland Park, Kansas. Very highly rated, actually looking forward to getting my car to them.

If it's not totaled.. Fack.

Ouch! I've had my share of close encounters with snow and ice, though I was fortunate to get away with just dinged doors and bumpers. Here's to hoping your car can be repaired, and if not, that you can find something equally enjoyable.

I know you've already taken the advice to forget a salvaged car, but I wanted to add to the general consensus about those cars.

My Civic was totalled in a flood some years back. Water up to the headrests. Although it was called a "freshwater" flood, it was actually filthy mud. I can only imagine the amount of pollutants and corrosive substances in there that would eventually eat away at the car from the inside out. Under the hood, there was mud, twigs, debris everywhere. Not to mention the potential mold growing in the seats and under the carpeting. Plus, when I got back home, my car was on the lawn and scratched up. Who knows what collided with it in the moving water. After seeing what a flood does to a car up close, I would never, ever buy a flood salvage car.

Anyway, good luck with the repairs (or shopping, if it comes to that...)

I would pray for it to be totalled. My last car had much less damage than yours by the sound of it, but nevertheless they wasted 13K fixing it, and it was still never quite right. But it was a good excuse to buy my bimmer!

There's one born every day.....

"That price CAN'T be beat"

Next month someones going to be bitching about a 2006 BMW 330i with electronic gremlins

Quote:
2006 BMW 330 i - $17,700

It comes with Rebuilt title due to fresh water damage in Dallas TX during heavy rains. Some how some water got inside the car. It got up to the seat bottom level but since it was fresh water, it did not damage anything in the car. We simply had the car detailed. There was absolutely no water in the engine or transmission of the car. EVERY THING IN THIS BMW IS IN PERFECT WORKING ORDER AND DOES NOT NEED ANY KIND OF REPAIR OR WORK. THIS CAR IS READY FOR THE ROAD AND A NEW OWNER.

Don't buy a salvage title. For 21K you can get a decent car with CLEAR title.

Yea f that. Put it this way...for 18k you can find a nice CPO 06 330i that has not be salvaged. BTW fully loaded implies there is X drive, and automatic...i don't see that on your list. Go to dealerships adn tell them what you want...trust me they are desperate to get rid of the 06 models.

Good to hear you are OK.

Well it's on it's way out to Eveland Bros. right now. They're going to start tearing it down this morning and determining the damage. My hopes are still residing on the "not totaled" side as Eveland is the highest rated shop in the area...BMWNA certified and all that jazz. They've got all the fancy bells and whistles like that frame straightener. Really looking forward to getting my car back in one piece.

On the other hand, my girlfriends father is a car dealer and i'm going to check out a Monaco blue 335xi coupe tomorrow. So maybe this wreck wasn't such a bad thing after all, haha.

Edit: Apparently someone has already snatched up that 330i in Texas, so good luck to whomever bought that thing.

double ouch

My 328xi with 6,000 on the odometer slid underneath an suv on an icy road last month.
It looked about the same as yours, except the damage basically was confined to one side of the vehicle and the air bag did not deploy.
It was not totalled, but repairs are running in the $7,000 range. Insurance is covering all but my deductible but my rate is surely going to rise.
I love the fact that BMW's are safe and contain the latest in electronic safety gear (although it could stop the car sliding downhill -- understandably) but they are expensive to repair b/c of all the plastics in use, inside and out.
Good luck with your repair.
