E63 / E64 6 Series (2004 - 2010)
The E63/E64 BMW 6 Series builds on BMW's sporty heritage with aggressive lines and an incredible motor to back the design up. Available in coupe and convertible trims with a standard 4.8 liter engine producing 360 horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque, the 6-series is a popular choice that exceeds expectations.

Dynamic Drive and Active Steering retrofit

Have anyone retrofitted these?
I just drove again my 645 with these one and it feels great compared to my current 650 with M6 sway bars and lowered shocks. Its harsh on the road and doesnt suit the character of a 6 series. Also the 645 with dynamic drive keeps the car completely straight no matter how sudden I move the steering wheel.

And the active steering...It totally transforms the car. Its so easy to park and drive in slow speeds. The normal servotronic is fine at high speeds but at city speeds it makes a difference.
A few months back I wanted to swap the items to my 650 to have them all there but it requires a lot of work and lifting the engine as well.

Have anyone retrofitted these on his car? I know its a lot of work but I am thinking it as a project.

Ok just to update:
I found the parts from a scrap car and bought them.
Now I removed the front subframe along with the steering, pump, pipes engine brackets (time to replace the engine bracket oil seal as well) and swapping the active steering rack to the subframe.

Its a long project but its not my main car so I dont mind. I also installed the dynamic drive block and different steering cooler.

So far all good and nothing major. Next week I will install the subframe with the new steering rack and start wiring the car. It makes it a lot easier if you take the plugs and wiring as well from the old car.
If someone is interested I can put more details like which ecu, sensors etc you have to use.

Update:

Active steering is in and it works! You have to use a DSC abs unit from a car newer than 9/05 (white sticker) that says active steering. I had an older DSC and it didnt work at first. Its how they communicate and sending signals etc so you have to use the right version. That is because my car is made 12/05 and some of the parts I had were removed from a 05/04 car. Also the Active steering ECU bosch part number needs to end in 059 as this one controls the Servotronic and ECO valve directly as opposed to the 056 ECU.
Also in newer date cars you only need one DSC sensor (active steering part number) instead of 2.

So to list what is required for active steering retrofit:
Active steering rack (not lci ones)
Steering pump with ECO valve
Active steering lines
Active steering ECU 059 for after 09/05 models or 056 for older
One DSC active steering sensor for newer models or 2 for older
Active steering ABS pump made after 09/05 for newer models (white sticker) or before for older (black sticker)
Active steering cooler any version. I used one from a e60 model.
Bigger fluid container either from active steering car or dynamic drive.

Thats it. Just wire it up to power with 40A fuse from luggage compartment, to PT-CAN, F-CAN and wake-up signal and code it.

Next is the Dynamic drive which is easier task as its only one ECU and sensor

You can try using something like "Imgur" (free to use), when you've uploaded your pictures to it you'll have a series of links associated to your pic, clicking on one (usually the message boards versions) will automatically copy the link allowing you to paste it into you thread.

Yes but everytime I paste an image here it formats it so you cant click on it. Maybe it doesnt like this provider with .cc URL at the end

The old way of attaching pictures to the forum
One picture shows the car with subframe removed

And second shows subframe on my table with active steering fitted and pipes for dynamic drive.

And yes its a one man job. Nothing is very heavy or too difficult. The most difficult part was to lift the car high enough (and safe) in order to get the subframe from under

Dynamic Drive installed successfully as well and is working fine! Rear sway bar was a bit difficult to install with pipes properly in place. But all good now.
So if anyone is looking if its possible to retrofit active steering or dynamic drive then yes its the answer. Money wise? Just get the parts from a breaker your self as they tend to rip of everything. The pipes are difficult to remove after so many years so get a torch.
Total cost 500 but after I sell my old parts I guess around it would be around 350. Not bad for these features on the car.
So far I retrofitted ACC, ARS, AFS, CIC, FLA and adaptive headlights. I think the next step is: heated steering wheel, soft close doors and night vision. Then sell the car as its getting old!

You have way to much time on your hands, but I'm glad you got everything working, that was quite the job!

Very cool. Do you know any details about retrofitting AS to an E70? Please PM if yes.
