Well boys ...are WE biased??

I just noticed something.

We get a lot of "is this a good deal?" threads. And when we do, we sometimes give good advice, but also we demand that people search around, figure out what the going rates are, grow a pair and get after that dealer for a good deal.

But. When the poster is a female, do we drop into a more paternal posture??

I don't know. That's why I am asking.

I recall one post where a buyer had a decent handle on numbers, but was getting abused by the dealer. I believe it became apparent she was an attorney. I was particularly annoyed that the dealer seemed to be manhandling her.

Another thread, today. I cannot help but feel gender played a roll in what she was getting. BUT..did gender play a roll in my response? Am I nicer to people I perceive as female? I think I am. I rationalize this by "car forums are definitely a 'male' environment, and we should make the occasional female more comfortable. So take showers, clean up the sofa and wash those dishes!.

I dunno, just a question......

Edit: This is where I find out Quack is a 56 year old housewife.

OE is Original Equipment aka 'BMW Original Parts' aka 'What you buy at the BMW dealer with a BMW label'

OEM is Original Equipment Manufacturer... EITHER the company that made the OE part or.... A part this is identical to the OE part, but is sold by the OEM under their own label

OEM is not what BMW sells

I think the dynamic you have noticed is real. The question is, should we be harder on the women or should we be nicer to everyone? Is it a case of the poor girl needs help vs. the lame as$ dude needs to do his basic homework before posting? Are we harder on those perceived to be male?

Simple answer.... here it comes.... courtesy for all, without patronizing, or flaming, anyone.

And that 56 year old housewife sure has a nice 540i Msport

I will courteously disagree. I think folks who come on here asking COURTEOUSLY for advice, get help. By pure happenstance, most visitors of the female gender fall into that category.

OTOH folks who come on here being all BOISTEROUS using their CAPS LOCK for every other word, and EXPECTING us to do all of the RESEARCH for them get treated differently. "Who wants to LEASE ME a CAR?!?!?!" As any housewife who is also a mother will tell you, a little tough love will work wonders sometimes. There is an excellent thread here on leasing. If someone can't be bothered to read it, Mama's not going to show their lazy azz much love.

Now go bring Mama a glass of Chablis, clean up your room, and don't let me catch you whacking off to porn again while you are up there.

I have wondered this a bit myself.... (I actually ended up helping that female attorney offline review her lease deals via email and phone, believe it or not). Would i have done that if it was a man? shrug.. dunno. I know I was annoyed that she was being taken advantage of and being patronized.

I think its a bit of what Ard is saying, and a bit of what quack is saying. Many times female posters are a bit more polite... BUT I also notice that in general, the board is MUCH more forgiving to someone who identifies themselves as a female poster. particularly around pricing and maintenance.
