Bmw 840 1997- help please

HI,
I was driving yesterday and my upper radiator hose blew off. Steam and water emerged all over the hood. The mechanic said that it and my radiator were plastic and that I needed a new radiator. I saw the clamp on the top of the hose so perhaps it actually detached from the radiator? I had just filled the radiator with distilled water so the little red indicator stick was high and the radiator was fulll The thermostat, which I'd replaced last year, was center and fine signalng no overheating.

Do I really need a new radiator?

Thank you.

Check under the upper radiator hose opening. Mine was cracked on the side and just below the connection. It was hard to see at first. Bought a new radiator for less than $200 with a lifetime warranty. Took the local mechanic about 2 hours from start to finish. Total cost was around $400.

BMW radiator - 840

Thanks for the response. Both mechanics (same shop), said I needed a new radiator.
The hose was totally detached and ragged appearing at the end, and the clamp was on the detached hose. For the '97 840, there was no radiator except through the dealer, special order for about $550. I have rebuilt this entire car - or I thought the entire car . What I need to ascertain now from this situation is, was there another less costly alternative because that will inform me on trusting these guys in the future. I live in 94941.

Thanks again.

I bought from www.fcpeuro.com. Should’ve given you that information earlier.
