Instrument Cluster - 01 320i

Hi all

Greetings. This is my first post. I am in Canada and recently purchased a 2001 320i. Due to the price of the car, I decided to buy it simply on its drivability and its condition (which means I did not do a PPI). I bought it in BC just prior to moving to Nova Scotia. Car generally drove very well for its 5000 KM journey - which was good for a car with 185,000 KM on the odo.

In order to get it registered, I needed to have it inspected, which revealed several issues that need attention (signal lights do not self cancel, Air Bag light does not illuminate, Passenger side control arm (end link), Driver side strut, front rotors).

As I have time to work on the repairs, I decided to tackle the instrument cluster first. In addition to the SRS light, I also notice that the High Beam indicator does not illuminate.

I uploaded a photo of the gauge cluster and wanted to see what other lights appear to be not illuminated. Again, its a Canadian market 2001 320i.

Thanks

John B

Would you have picture of normal view of instrument cluster also? Just wondering if you have tamper dot or not.. if this is original cluster or not.

You need to change cluster I believe. You can find in ebay. Should be from as close to same year and model car as possible with same accessories. I believe one from europe would work, if you can't find closer, as long as showing kilometers not miles. Shouldn't matter if cluster is from 320i or 325i or 330i, as long as not diesel or 4-cylinder. Then it should be coded to match your car. (And then you probably find out that airbag light is on all the time?)

Thanks

I did do the cluster test and noted that the high beam and SRS are not illuminated. Just not sure what else should be illuminated.

If it makes sense,I would hope to send the cluster to a repair centre to have them do the work.

If you can get it repaired then it's good option ofcourse.

In my earlier e46 I found problem with high beam, and after trying to fix it I ended up changing instrument cluster. Requires bit coding, but I was able to do it myself.

like this one:

Pause at about 30 seconds.....

looks like the fog lights in the far lower left corner of the cluster aren't illuminated

Thanks Pedro!! I forgot about looking at you tube - sometimes I have my Homer Simpson moments DOH!

My car does not have fog lights, so not sure if it would have come with those indicators - or whether all indicators are standard.
