central locking system

The central locking system has stopped working. My key works, locks and unlocks the door. However, once I'm inside the car I can't lock or unlock the car using the inside button.

Any suggestion where I would begin to diagnosis the problem?

Thank you

That was rude. If you dont have anything useful to say, then dont post.

dtenorio: I would suggest taking it to your local dealership.

Unhappy

I also have a problem with my central locking system. It only happens intermittently, like on hot days when left out of garage. Remote won't work, central lock button won't work, not even the door handles. Once the car cools down system works fine. I actually got locked inside my car once. I couldn't open any of the doors. Lucky the windows rolled down so I could climb out the window.

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

Marco

I have notice that my central locking has gone funny before. Sometimes the second press on the key which will open all doors stops working. I have to re-lock the car and try again. Weird....

My 330ci also had this problem. I can't unlock the passenger's door when I used my remote to unlock the car. Even, when I drop my passenger, teh passenger door doesn't unlock unless he unlock by the door handle.

I have searched this topic in this forum. It seems to be a fairly common problem.
The only solution is to replace the actuator. I am sure it is expensive to do that.
A lot of guy just wait and see. But that's inconvenient to live up with that.

Can anybody suggest how much it costs to replace the actuator ?
Thanks

The locking system elecrtronics can be affected by extreme heat and interference from other radio frequency/waves around the car....

I've actually got my car in the dealer today, because I've got an intermittant problem with my door locks. It isn't just one door, it is all of them when it happens. The button on the center console stops working too. I haven't made any connection between hot weather, but it may be the case? Of course the dealer said they didn't find any problem, so who knows if it will get fixed, unless there is some sort of silent bulletin on the matter.

I recently posted because all of my doors were stuck locked including my gas door. Turns out that two days after my locks stopped working my battery went dead. Two days after I replaced the battery the locks starting working again and haven't given me any problem - yet... Anyway, the mechanic said they need full voltage or they won't work at all.

I have had the same problem with first my passenger side and then my drivers side door not unlocking from the key remote or the center console. Had both actuators replaced by a mechanic but still did not fix the problem. In the end they took it to a BMW dealer who plugged their diagnostic computer into it and said the central locking computer was the problem. They replace it and I havent had any problems since.

This is EXACTLY whats happened to me!!! How did you have it fixed???? I thought it was my remote key and bought another $275 key...it obviously wasn't that. People think I'm crazy when I tell them that it only happens when it sits in the HEAT! when I put my car in that garage...no problems. PLEASE HELP!

Shelly,

Still haven't solved or figured out the problem. I've been quiet about this because it's been relatively cool. Now with todays hot day, the problem is back. The drivers side door opened only with the key. However, I could not get any of the other doors to unlock with either the central locking button or with the door handles. I guess I wouldn't be so upset but I can't even open the doors with the inside handles with makes it extremely frustrating when I picked up my son from school and he had to climb in through the window. Now that was embarrassing. I'm going to change the battery since it's been a few years since I replaced it before. Maybe (crossing fingers) this will help. I post my findings when I replace the battery and see if anything changes.

Anyone with any suggestions would be helpful. If anyone knows if it's possible to disconnect the locking system so that I could at least use the door handles would be helpful.

Marco

central locking system stopped working

C/Locking suddenly stopped working, searched the net and suspected the GM5 module relays. I removed the module to check the type of relays and dimensions etc, while the module pcb was out i tappity tap tapped the 4 relays, refitted the module and now the c/l has been working perfectly for 2 days. I hope it continues. If it does, either a relay was stuck or a bad connection on one of the multi pin connectors.
