we need to know when your car was built. BMW changed the design mid year. The grills changed after 03/2003
use realoem.com to get the date using your last 7 digits of your VIN.

It was made in july 2002 it says so on my vin plate under the bonnet but the grills look to be more like the size of the 1998-2001 model iv measured the one i have left on the car and its 26.5cm -27cm in width across at its widest point but all the ones iv tried have been much wider could they be m3 grills?

Bimmerfest is a US-based forum. Cars sold in other parts of the world were often available with different option packages, which we are not familiar with. Try some local wrecking yards near you, they are usually a good source for parts such as this.
Also, use one of the VIN Identification websites to find out exactly which options & packages your car has.

Thats what i thought but the last 3 sets iv ordered from ebay that said were for mine have been way too big to fit mine the one original grill i have left on measures 26.5cm across at its widest point the ones iv bought have been nearly 30cm wide its a real pain as the cars in real good condition for age n rust free its made it look a mess with grill missing iv had to make a cardboard makeshift grill to stop stones getting in to fan n rad lol

Are you sure you're not ordering facelift grilles?

Also, sedan grilles are different from coupe grilles, so it may be possible you ordered those.

Correct, my good fellow....matter of fact, ALL sheet metal forward of the A-pillars is different on coupes compared to sedans....

OP, you REALLY need to go to a VIN identifier website to find out exactly WHAT your car is....right now, you have no idea.....

Can you post links to the grilles you bought? The facelift kidney grilles are a different shape and size compared to the pre-facelift kidney grilles.

If you really want to get fancy, you can get the M4-style double-slat grilles. I want some for my car, but they don't make them for facelift coupes.
