Fog Light Question

So i'm replacing my fog lights about every year or two. I've been using the inexpensive (i.e. cheap) Philips H8 bulbs which are 35 watts. In searching for replacements i've found some Hella H8 bulbs that are 55 watts. Can i safely use these in place of the 35 watt bulbs?

I don't need super bright bulbs. Don't have much fog here to the point that I need fog lights. I do like to keep the fog lights on for better visibility of me to others.

Link to bulbs i'm considering:

You can also consider buying 55w H11 bulbs and modifying the tab to fit the H8 socket. Did that on another car and still fine

Can google for H8 to H11 conversion for other DIY about altering the tab.

That's probably with the H8 55w is. A H11 bulb with the H8 socket.

I would want to confirm with some that has run 55watt in the fogs...being plastic housings, there is the risk of melting something. Also, I can guarantee the 55watt H8s will last significantly less than the stock 35watt. I have used higher watt bulbs in several applications over the past 30 years and in all cases the bulbs had shorter life. I've come full circle and just use stock bulbs now. I even tried the HIR bulbs in the fogs...they had about half the life of stock and the brighter bulb didn't make for a useful improvement as the limitation is the reflector and lens.

Thanks. I think I'll just stick with the 35 watt H8 bulbs but try a different brand. The fogs aren't hard to change but I would like to get more life.

HID might be a practical upgrade as they typically have longer life than halogen. How is the performance? Do they make them where they don't require separate ballasts?

my ballasts are screwed to the inside of the wheel well

as far as separate ballasts, ive only ever seen them with ballasts,

and for longer life, ive never replaced a HID bulb

give it a shot.. its cheap and it works good
