7 Series - G11 / G12 (2016 - current)
The next generation G11/G12 BMW 7 Series flagship forum. Unveiled June 10th, with production starting in August the 6th generation 7 Series comes in a light weight package with extensive use of BMW i carbon fiber technology. The interior quality raises the bar with a touch screen and gesture controlled infotainment system. Exterior styling has been a sticking point with mixed reviews so far.

A/C Cycling Down '17 7 Series

I have been experiencing air conditioning in my 2017 750i periodically cycling down. The issue is that after the car has been sitting in the sun, the a/c will cycle down on its own and blow out air very low (cool temp remains but airflow is low). It will then resume to normal after about 30 seconds. Then, when accelerating from a stop, it will cycle back to low. Does not return to normal unless cruising on the freeway. I have had the car since March and this problem did not begin until the temp reached 105 plus in PHX (in the last few weeks). Interestingly, when my car was in for the attempted repair, I was provided with a 2017 530i as a loaner. It has the IDENTICAL problem. The service guy advised me that their have been several new 7 and 5 series in for the same problem and they have been in contact with the regional rep about the issue. I'm glad to know that I am not the only one experiencing this, that the dealership has been very honest and upfront about the issue, and that BMW NA is apparently working on a fix. Please keep us posted as to any progress and I will do the same.

Feature, not bug.

ac issue

Not in eco mode. It occurs in all modes after sitting in the heat and sun. BMW NA has acknowledged the problem and is working on a fix. It is apparently a widespread problem according to my SA. Several cars have been brought in with the same problem after the torrid heat started here. Hopefully, they can resolve the problem. Some people on this forum incorrectly believe that it is user error or that it is designed to power down. According to my SA and BMW NA, that is NOT the case.

I noticed the same situation in my 2017 740. Please let me know how BMW resolves the issue.

I think I'm experiencing the same thing on my CPO 2016 740i. Has this issue been addressed? Any information post successful service from OP or others?

Thanks!

If it happens after sitting in the sun...I wonder if there's an issue with the solar sensor or its programming? The solar sensor was added to the HVAC systems back around the 1999/2000 model year...and was designed to change the operating parameters of the IHKA (the control panel) based on the thermal impact of the sun hitting the windshield and increasing the heat inside the vehicle.

Again, just curious if the present day sensor (or its programming) is the issue. The 1st illustration below is from the e38/e39/e46/e53 era...but its function can probably be extrapolated to the new generation BMWs:

EDIT: just did a quick search on the TIS website and found this info...looks like the G12 7 series has a "combined" sensor for "rain-light-solar-condensation". Click link below for information about this sensor and how it functions:

I am having issues with my 16 G12 A/C as well. When I get into the car that has been sitting in the sun and turn to Max A/C everything works well. Once I switch to Auto then one of my rear zones starts pumping hot air. I have all the zones setup to sync and temperature readout in the rear panel matches what I have in the front. When I got to Max A/C it works fine. I don't have the issue when the car sits in a garage and start driving it in the hot weather.

Sounds like it's time for a trip to the warranty department to me.
