Low beam headlight issue

My left low beam has been intermittent. Pulled the socket and noticed the mail connector in the 9006 socket was bent (the one right below the red arrow) so I ordered a replacement. Now the replacement socket will not fit in to the grey connector that is shown. Can this connector be replaced? Or do I have an issue with the replacement socket. Any guesses?

What year is your car? Did you look up the part at realoem before ordering?

The car is a 2001. The pictures above are not ones I took of my parts but they are identical. I've tried looking up part numbers but I haven't tried the above mentioned site, I check there.

Its the first site to look, just look in the "Classic" section, the e39 is there, punch in your car, save as a bookmark and its always ready for use.
For the connector, maybe you can just cut off what obstructing?

Checked that site out but only found the parts for xenon headlights, not halogen. That's definitely a good site and I have it bookmarked now. Thanks
