Based on what that filter looks like, I would say your car has been pretty neglected, so the $1100 you paid for this can of worms is more than a fair deal.

Keep track of your time and multiply it by $120. It will be interesting to see what the figure will be.

From what the guy said and it makes sense, he bought it 09/18 in Utah, had a ton of stuff done to prepare to drive down here to Louisiana..He had all the bushings changed (look new), rebuilt a turbo (cant tell), had the ports cleaned (will see Saturday), oil, etc. Bot out here beginning of year, drove til about April. It locked up, he towed it home...It has been sitting for about 6 months. He tried to say 2 months, but I could easily tell it was longer.
When I buy a car, I go through it. BMW' love maintenance, so That is what I am doing. It is just a project car. I always wanted to play with a N54 engine based car. Got my chance for cheap. My time is FREE, so I am only calculating parts. Still waiting on title, so just giving it the once over...lol

V8 takes more than 5 quarts. At least 7 I think.

I give mine 6.5 qts at oil changes and that seems to put the computer at the top of the monitor range. Think there is some variation in total crankcase volume motor to motor- ymmv

Forget the compressor, remove the belt and see if it cranks/starts.

Is your foot on the brake when you push starter button? That is required to crank engine...

Given that you're in Louisiana, you probably want AC but you could do a bypass with a shorter belt. I'm not sure of the exact length for an N54 but a Delco 6K434 works on an N52. Something of similar length in a 7 rib (7K434) would possibly work.

Put charger on battery. You may have a parasitic load discharging the battery your new when ignition is off. If battery state-of-charge is below the startability limit, 30-40% depending on temperature, the DME will not engage the starter.
Read the codes if you can. Attempting to start with a weak battery can cause problems with the DME-CAS synchronization, requiring reset.

Well the ac compressor is specific to the 08-10 models. The junk yard lied and said they had it, but I verified it was wrong. Found a guy in Houston with a compressor and starter, so imma grab them this week. Almost 3 hour drive, he won't ship, no cashapp, no Zelle....smh

Lot of money in to a car that doesnt run...

correct me if im wrong.. but didnt you get the starter to turn the engine over already?

Are you sure you need a starter?
are you sure the starter is being commanded to run?
