F80/F82/F83 M3 and M4 (2015 - Current)
F80 BMW M3 sedan, F82 BMW M4 coupe and F83 M4 convertible forum. This 5th generation M3 and all new M4 features a 3.0 liter twin turbo engine (engine code S55) 425hp and 406lbs of torque! Heavy use of light weight materials makes this generation lighter and faster then the outgoing E9x M3.

First post - should I only look at CPO cars

Hi. Iíve been a lurker on this site for a while and finally registered today. LOL. I donít own a BMW right now, but the wife really wants a convertible so I was looking at a used 4-series. I like the hardtop convertible even though I know it adds weight. I was also looking at the Audi S5 convertible (I owned a 2012 S5 a while back) but I prefer the look of the BMW. Besides, time to try something different. Anyway my real question has to do with CPO cars. Is that the only route I should go? I know little about the reliability/expense of repairing these cars, but having owned 4 Porsche Caymans and a 911, as well as GTIs, Golf Rs and the aforementioned S5, I do know that cars from Deutschland can be a bit pricey.

I should also point out that I was looking at the M4 convertible (why Iím on this board). It seems like the price of a low mileage, used M4 is in line with a new 440i, so thatís my first choice ($50,000 range).

Thanks for any feedback.

You have your answer!

Personally, I would never buy a Used/CPO/Preowned M4. Those that don't keep em, will pretty much thrash em without hesitation.

A 440i Cabriolet is a safer bet.

Cheers!

Have you and your wife driven/owned convertibles ?

in New Jersey?

I wouldnt take on for free, but thats me.

Nothing wrong with super low mile used M cars. All depends on due diligence, PPI, etc. Most people cannot manage that process though.

OE is Original Equipment aka 'BMW Original Parts' aka 'What you buy at the BMW dealer with a BMW label'

OEM is Original Equipment Manufacturer... EITHER the company that made the OE part or.... A part this is identical to the OE part, but is sold by the OEM under their own label

OEM is not what BMW sells
