Yellow gear light

Hi everyone, I'm new in the forum and try to search my problem in other forums but i couldn't.
I have a 2005 Z4 automatic transmission with just 7300 miles, the car was a gift of my father in law, he bought the car brand new and he didn't used the car a lot.
The car has a few things that I have to change because the sun roasted plastics exterior things.
And also have the problem of the gear yellow light, I think is something electrical because the transmission is fine, all changes from 1st to 5th are fine, sport mode is fine too.
The problem begin, when the car off and obviously in park, you start the car and the light came on.. the car enter in limp mode and from P to D is very rough.. so you can't drive the car with the yellow light, so you have to shut off the car and then before start the car you have to put the shift in Neutral. When you start the car in neutral, no yellow lights and no limp mode, all is good. You can drive normally but, after you arrived your destination and have to put Park, the gear light came on again..
I'm from Venezuela, and don't have a scanner to see the error codes or something like that. BMW dealers are closed and we don't have a lot of mechanics that can work with bmw cars. If someone can help me will be very grateful.
Thanks

Anything else not working correctly? On a hunch, can you check to see if the brake lights are working correctly? Also, When was the battery replaced?

Brake lights are ok, the battery is new, I noted last week that the rear window defrost not working. But everything else is ok.

Wow that is odd. It sounds more like an electrical than a mechanical issue since the car drives fine from the neutral position, but It's going to be tough to call without a scanner. If you are able to engage sport mode from the park position, see if that makes any difference. Also, check there is no sign of trans fluid leakage underneath.
