My 2020 M8 Build

Waiting to get a production number on this car:
https://www.bmwusa.com/build-your-ow...vx31p4/summary

I have been told by the dealer that the 2020 M8's will be available to order (and get a production number on) in August... I will be following up with them tomorrow no doubt.

I started with an m850 and slowly convinced myself on the M8... now I am wondering do I go all the way for M8 competition? I know realistically I wont be track racing this car, but the perfectionist in me has me wondering if the net 8k more makes sense for essentially 17 more horsepower (and features that I likely won't notice or use). Thinking about potential resale value as well as I am buying not leasing this and plan to keep it for a while.

I noticed that the competition model includes the Full Merino Leather while it's optional on the "base" M8, so if you're going full merino anyway you can deduct that 3,500 from the competition package cost.

The performance gains aren't that significant, so I still don't know that it's actually worth it. Someone in marketing probably had them de-tune the standard version slightly so that they could squeeze another ~$10k out of buyers who already have deep pockets and consider the extra cost marginal, and don't want to leave any horsepower on the table when they're already spending close to 150k. That said, the price of an M8 is pretty competitive compared to comparable models so I'll probably be adding the competition package.

The extra horsepower and suspension improvements alone probably are the entire reason. Itís one of those, you are already spending that much why not go all the way? And yes, was getting the full merino package. I also think the competition package may hold its value slightly better than the standard m8 and may even become a bit of a collectors item should you hold onto it long enough.

Did you submit your build sheet? If so, have you gotten any feedback-production number, estimated delivery etc. I am curious how fast they will delivering them.

There are no allocations yet for the M8 (or 2020 8's as far as I know). I am also likely going with an individual build (colors and interior) so that will extend the build time assuming what I want is approved by BMW.
