My 535i needs a new radiator fan. What are my options?

Somehow a socket extension has found its way into my radiator fan, destroying some blades. Hopefully that's the only damage.

A quick parts search seems to show only the fan assembly with frame (which is $500 and up). Or universal fans which are much more affordable, but I'm guessing can't be used with the OEM frame? What's the best route here?

Id try to find a used one. Junk yard, eBay, etc.

Holy crap! I was going to suggest Rock Auto as a lower cost alternative. Not. Just about fell out of the couch. $770 CDN for the replacement. A wrecker is the route you want to check. Not sure what year your car is but realoem.com would be the first stop to check on the cross references of models that might also use the same unit.

Yeah the first place I went was Rock Auto, and I had the same reaction. Lol.

I've got a 2010 and just crossed referenced and it only shows them on the e60's https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/par...&q=17427603658

This might require a hack or two but I would think that any 3 series or X3 with an inline six cylinder would likely have a similar sized fan. The shroud may be different but the fan motor is possibly the same. I just had a look at the 335 from 2010. It also has an 850 watt fan. The other 3 series have 400 or 600 watt fans depending on standard equipment and accessories. Happy hunting.

Ok, so the options aren't looking great.

Who has put in a universal puller fan? Tempted to buy a slim SPAL fan and put it in, but a little worried about the wiring and if it plays nice with the BMW's computer.

Anybody know of a 535i E60 getting parted out?

Thanks but that one is not for a 535i. The 535 should has holes for the oil cooler hoses and has a 850W fan, which I doubt many others do. I am curious as to if those fan blades couldn't be made to fit though.

Hmm. My mistake.
I do indeed see this fan is expensive as hell, which makes no sense as the differences are minimal.
I also do think the fan blades would fit, but there doesnt seem to be a separate part number for it

The BMW fan is PWM controlled, giving it variable speeds from 'gentle breeze' to 'hurricane force'. A basic 12v fan will not work. Call a bunch of auto wreckers and get a used one.

car-part.com maybe? Rock had a nice one for the 530 but the 535 is indeed a different beast.

I have an OES Behr one, brand new for an 08 535xi. I bought one, then realized it wasn't my fan that was broken, it was a relay that needed to be replaced. I'm in Boston and would love to get rid of it. I paid $550 for it, just looking to get some money back for it. Shoot me an offer via DM.
